It was hard for me to keep the different characters straight for the first couple of chapters which frustrated me. And for 2/3 of the book I couldn't really tell where the author was going. I wish the way it ended had been fleshed out for more chapters because that's when things got fun. I gave up on this book twice, but I'm glad I decided to pick it up a third time and finish it.

After having read THE JANE AUSTEN SOCIETY, I was very much looking forward to Evie's story. I found so much more in the pages of BLOOMSBURY GIRLS. One of the things I love about historical fiction right now is the focus on women's stories - either stories that haven't been told, or stories that highlight women's triumphs over misogyny and discrimination. All three heroines were so different from each other! Grace's way was always to go along to get along. Vivien had the fiery spark of her temper, and Evie hid in her books, unsure of how to overcome her anger at being passed over simply because she was female. To see these three women come together and, with the help of some very well-placed friends, create the life of their dreams, was an utter joy.

A fun and light read that also tackles some deeper issues gracefully.

I enjoyed this sequel to The Jane Austen Society. The author has an easy-to-read, relatable style, so it was a quick read. Honestly, I liked The Jane Austen Society a bit better, as I felt the characters had a little more depth to them. The characters in Bloomsbury Girls had some surprises to them, but I didn’t feel as connected to the characters as I like to.

A worthwhile read all the same!

A charming book about three women who turn a stuffy bookstore on its head, along with its male employees and owner. Nicely written and easy to read. Very entertaining.

I loved the cozy bookshop vibes, the strong female voices, and the unassuming character of Evie Stone, the youngest of the women. Some of the relationships seemed forced but overall it was a good read.

I received an ARC through Austenprose PR for a book tour. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

A historical fiction book about books? Yes, please!

Oh, this was such a cozy and quaint read. For a historical fiction, this was a spirited read featuring women that decide to push back the norms set for them.

While maybe not as eventful as some might expect, this book is filled with heartfelt stories for each of our main characters, including a little romance. I simply loved following and getting to know each of them. And I’m all for seeing women push back against the status quo!

And what makes it all even better? We’re surrounded by books as we read this beautiful book. I adored the setting of Bloomsbury Books. Not only is it set in a book store, but we see a persistent theme of our main characters pushing back against the men in the store to include more female authors, besides just those that are “too popular to ignore.”

As I mentioned, this might not be considered eventful to some, but I found this to be a very enjoyable and captivating read. I think this would be a perfect read for those who enjoy historical fiction, women who push back on societal norms, and books about books!
