Jumping Off Library Shelves by Lee Bennett Hopkins, published in 2015. Age Level: 2nd-4th. This is a collection of poems about children exploring the different aspects of a library. Some poems encompass the physical act of reading while the other poems bring to life the stories themselves and the magic that they possess. A library is really glamorized in this book to show the immense impact and power that is held in a quality book. I think that I could use this in my classroom as a motivation technique to increase my students' interest in reading. This could be a great classroom read aloud to preface our library center that would get students excited about reading. I think that students may also have to work to completely understand every poem in the book, which is a great challenge for their comprehension skills.

Its a book. About libraries and experiences in them. In the form of poems.
What isn't to like?
I love the variety of poetry in this. I like the classic rhyme, but I can only do so much. This, luckily, had some of that, some rhymic styles, some hiaku, all sorts! I think it would be a fun thing to attempt as a class! Picking a topic and everyone can write their own poem of their favorite style, then read it all aloud. Sounds like a blast!

Fun collection of poems to read in a library. My kids wouldn’t have liked it as a picture book but I did.
