I really enjoyed this book. Chris Guillebeau talked about all the different aspects of finding quests, weaving in rich stories from other people with extraordinary goals, be they athletic, spiritual, exploratory, social justice-oriented, or creative. He also shared some of his own adventures visiting every country in the world before the age of 35. Every aspect of the process was covered and well-researched, and the narrative flowed beautifully throughout the book. If you've liked Guillebeau's other books in the past, you'll love this one--his writing has gotten even richer. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off for a quest of my own...

Honestly more like 3 stars in terms of the quality of the book itself, really only has one main message (go on a quest, it will be fun and fulfilling!) with some entertaining but not groundbreaking anecdotes to support this. Some general tips on how to define a quest, some inspiring examples of quests, etc.

But the book did manage to convince me to go on my own quests, and inspired me to take action. So for that, I give it a 4/5 on terms of impact on my life.

Absolutely loved this book. Not only did it make me feel okay about choosing to live a different life than my peers, but it also laid down a way to plan your life in order to achieve your dream quests. I was so inspired by this book that I am taking a major leap in my own life, one that I am currently planning. So many inspirational stories and ideas that you just can't help but get excited. A must read for wanderers and people who want to make their life their own.

Read for inspiration, not content. Some of the quest stories were very interesting though.

Read It File It (short review): The Happiness of Pursuit by Chris Guillebeau is one of those books that will inspire you take on a quest for your life. To pursue something you have always wanted and accept all the things that come with it. I was impressed that he tackled the highs and lows of questing. That made it all the more inspiring. It was a nice reminder that sometimes you have to give up things to get other things that will make you happy!

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated by: George Newbern/Length: 7 hrs and 27 mins

George did a great job with this audiobook. He really made the individual stories come alive for me and I enjoyed listening to this one.

Inspiring and full of stories of people who I now need to go read about. It's great to spark people to dream and those that have a dream, to act.

I did not read this as a self-help book. i read it to enjoy other people's quests and read the anecdotes. Doing it that way was enjoyable and gives me things to check out like documentaries and books suggested inside.

Before reading this book I knew all about my internal motivation, a term he writes about in chapter 13, for creating the @herhikecollective group & hiking at least once a month. I believe that I have endless fuel of internal motivation. It stems from honoring my brother's life & continues on to seeking adventures, staying active & helping others do the same. I always knew that external recognition, that he also writes about, wasn't my main motivator & that this was rooted solely with internal motivation. But what I didn't realize until chapter 13, is that I have been creating this quest. Sure, I was creating a community, experiences & memories, but the word "quest" makes me believe that these hikes & the women hiking with me truly have the possibility to be a remarkable, life-affecting quest. My Brother's college baseball number was 13, so as I realized all of this while reading it came as no surprise to me that I learned it while reading chapter 13 of Chris Guillebeau's book. And, that is an external recognition that I would go outside for a moment & smile as I face my head towards the sky as to nod a 'thank you', & I did just that. This book is stories of people around the world on quests as Chris was on his own, visiting every country in the world. I won't give a spoiler but if you are feeling like something needs to be added to your life, you want to set off on a new challenge or dream I highly recommend his book!

I felt inspired and energized after reading this book. I don't think it's technically as well put together as the first two by this author, but it is still full of great material. Quests aren't for everyone, or perhaps even most people. But for those of us who are struggling to combine self-fulfillment with contribution to the greater good, they might be just what the doctor ordered. I know that I am excited to get mine underway. Thanks, Chris.
