Mistwood

Isabel is a Shifter, a legendary and powerful being that is bound to whomever sits on the throne in Samorna. She is sworn to protect the king and when Prince Rokan comes to the Mistwood to claim her protection, she cannot deny him. Upon reaching the castle, though, she finds that she cannot change shape the way she used to - and emotions that have never clouded her thinking or reactions before are making her task challenging when it should be effortless. Intrigue within the court and political secrets slowly reveal to Isabel the depth of what she's buried in and she needs to figure out - soon - how to reign in her powers again to protect the prince.

Cypess is a STORYTELLER. The text is lyrical and yet powerful. I could not put this book down because of the intricate and interesting story and because of the complex and engaging characters. Isabel is fascinatingly created - she is so incredibly strong, agile and capable and yet, the "weakness" that she begins to find in herself makes her feel so real. Prince Rokan is subtle and well-rounded and their enemies are hard to get a grip on. The romantic thread is so slight and yet so perfect that I wouldn't change a thing (well, maybe ONE more page :).

Cannot wait to read more from this author.

4.5 stars. Only thing that was bad was the ending was ok.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It addresses the issues of identity, agency and how love can effect our choices. I expect that I will re-read it at some point.

A very well developed world, and characters. A mystery behind the main character. However, the ending left me a little flat and down.

Honestly I just couldn't get into this book. I felt like it threw me into a plot I didn't understand and never really made sense...:/ I might try this again one day but for now...it wasn't my mind of story.

Well, I don't have a lot to say about this one, witch is rare..
The book is fine. I liked the premise and was very exited to read it.

However, I don't like that the reader doesn't know anything about nothing, though. When I read fantasy, I need some sort of information and background to understand the world, on this one, the reader is just tossed in the water and expected to know how to swim.

The writing isn't my cup of tea either, the way she(and everybody) keeps referring to herself as the almighty shifter was just annoying. I understand where the author wanted to go with it, I just didn't like it.

Finally, the characters. I just could not get myself to care about it..

For those reasons, I don't think I will be picking up any more of Cypress's books.

For some reason I couldn't get into this book. I guess not all books are the best book I have ever read.

3.5 stars

First off I love the cover of this book. It is so pretty. I did enjoy this one quiet a lot.. But... I feel like it was missing something, I wanted more from it. I enjoyed the whole concept and setting, a beautiful place was created. I wanted it explored more.

The characters were interesting. But none of them really stood out to me. I feel like we didn't get to know them all that well. There was one character I was interested in but he got killed off quiet early in the story so that bummed me out. And it also seemed that no one in the story cared he died so that made me sad. I wanted to enjoy the characters more but they just didn't jump out at me.

Isabel is such a strong kick ass character but at the same time she is struggling to figure out who or what she is. This made it hard to connect or even understand her some of the times. I think there is more to story that could be told. I feel it is just the beginning and it could get really good from here. There is a hint of romance but not really and that is one thing that I think could have helped me connect a bit more with the characters and the story.

Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the book and I think you should read it.

There were lots of plot twists in Mistwood. I wasn't sure who the main character Leah should trust throughout most of the book. I also didn't guess who she really was, so it was a nice surprise. There were no clear-cut good and bad guys either, but it made perfect sense for it to be that way. I think it lacked a little, but I’m not all together sure what exactly. I do think the romance could have been more intense. Over all I liked it.
