Thank you BookSparks for my free copy. All opinions are my own.

For fans of Devil in the White City and Unbroken, this historical fiction novel is engaging and atmospheric. Christie Nelson research was very evident in this novel. I really enjoyed learning more about the Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco. The descriptions of the exhibits made me want to go back in time. Most of the historical fiction novels I have read were during the war. It was refreshing to have a view of the atmosphere leading up to WW2.

The story is told in alternating narrators. We have Lily the reporter for the Examiner, Tokido the Japanese Pavilion host and Woodrow the art expert who also happens to be a dwarf. Lily was a great character. Ambitious and brave, although a tad naïve at times. I was curious where her relationships with Tokido and Woodrow would lead her.

I must say, the ending felt a little abrupt. The story wrapped up a little too quickly for me. I wanted the story to keep going. What’s next for these characters? Oh, the possibilities….

I give this 3.75 stars. This book releases May 1st.
