Of I would have read this when it debuted, I would have been gone over it. Light coming of age book
Second time reading this one.
I forgot how much I loved Vivian’s mindset. Her “I will make you MINE” thought process is very… exciting.

I felt this book was saying that teenagers always rebel against what they know, but what they really want is what they've always known.
I read this book every summer and have been since I was 15. If you aren't into werewolves that's fine. It's not for everyone but I'll come back to it every year and enjoy seeing Vivian struggle with her identity and emotions in her pack as they all try to move forward after tragedy. It's a five ⭐️ book for me.
I started to read this book for Banned Books Week. It's on the list of the Top 100 Banned or Challenged Books for 2000-2009 (see the list at http://www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/banned/frequentlychallenged/challengedbydecade/2000_2009/index.cfm).
But.
I didn't get past the first two chapters. Too much info-dumping, stilted internal monologue, and a cliche scene in which the protagonist studies herself in the mirror so the author can describe her appearance:
"She stood in front of her closet mirror in her T-shirt and twisted this way and that. What's wrong with me? she wondered. There was nothing the matter that she could see. She was tall and leggy, like her mother, with full breasts, small waist, and slim hips..."
I suspect that if this novel had not been banned, it would have died a natural death long ago.

Plot was interesting but I found it hard to be interested in the protagonist or care what happened to her, since her only qualities seemed to be that she was incredibly beautiful, everyone wanted her, and she "cared" a lot about her pack and her human boyfriend.
Loved this as a teenager. There is a relationship that I am definitely not comfortable with now as an adult, so I don't know if I can recommend it now.
