This one really built up the tension well.

We got some backstory, which was both well placed and splendidly done.

I really enjoy the thickness of the books too. They’re consistently the same thickness and they hold the perfect amount of story.

The cliffhanger really shook me.

Damn, Bishamon and Kazuma's backstory is BRUTAL. I can't imagine what an emotional toll that would take on someone, living or dead. And it breaks my heart that both of them have been suffering like that for years, possibly decades.

That being said, I know it's a little late to bringing this up, but I'm not feeling Kugaha as a villain. While I think his motivations are interesting, he's just a schemer and it doesn't seem particularly threatening. Not to mention the fact that his entire plan hinges on all the other shinki being compliant, which strikes me as odd that literally NO ONE BUT KAZUMA spoke out against him. Seriously, all those shinki and only one had issue enough to do something? Seems a little contrived. Though I guess narratively speaking it makes sense in the context of Bishamon's relationship with her shinki. But whatevs, it's not a deal breaker or anything.

I think the next volume's the conclusion of this arc, so I'm looking forward to the climatic finale! (of the arc, not the story)

Review for the entire series.

I really enjoyed this manga and I think the relationships between Yato, Hiyori, and Yukons were so beautiful. This story has a lot of heart. All of the characters felt very real and complex.

I did feel during the final battle with the sorcerer, there was a lot of leveling up in the battle. “Just when you think the fight couldn’t get any tougher…!!!” Needless to say it’s long and unfortunately there’s not a lot of space for Hiyori during that arc.

Loved the story, loved the ending.

Finally find out what horrible thing Yato done in this volume. A lot of misplaced aggression.

~4/5

The feud between Yato and Bishamon continues in this volume. Yukine accidentally steps in the middle of it, what Kazuma did for Yato gets revealed to Bishamon. Kugaha is working behind the scenes to cause more tension between them, and causes a lot of trouble for everyone, and it works.

I feel bad for Kazuma, and for Yukine. They are caught in the middle, when they shouldn’t be. It’s also revealed what happened between Yato and Bishamon in the beginning, what caused this huge rift, and it’s bad. Much worse than I expected it to be. It’s understandable from both sides, and because of Kugaha, and the pain that Bishamon is already in, things are just exploding. It’s bad.

And then there’s the cliffhanger, which don’t even get me started.

I’m excited, and really looking forward to the next volume. This series is really well done, in the development and main plot, the excitement and horrible, but also in the light moments. The humor is funny, and well-placed, which I appreciate.
