I got curious of this one because I saw someone asking about it on Twitter, and tbh this is the first time I seriously read danmei I think (excluding that one time I didn't finish mdsz fan translation)

It was mostly dark and tense, but the romantic moments were actually cute, I couldn't help but smile a bit. The ending actually made me curious of how the story would continue

I need to catch up with the 2nd book

This is the first book I’ve read where the weaknesses and strengths of humanity are described SO WELL.
A masterpiece.

The whole story is from the perspective of our little mushroom but we still get to face the difficulties of humans when it comes to emotions, opinions, morals and so on showcasing just how weak humans are in the face of greater forces/destiny. At the same time, An Zhe is so affected by the humans around him that he unconsciously picks up human behaviours and learns to understand people (Lu Feng).

I loved the ending!! I was very curious on how such a dystopian novel would end as there are only few ways these type of stories go and I was correct. It ended up being “love wins all” after all which is very cliche. HOWEVER, the author wrote it in a such a honest and heartfelt way that I felt I wouldn’t wish it to end any other way. She did not sugarcoat anything and actually wrote about the consequences of what happened and how they affected humans which was not pretty.

An Zhe and Lu Feng found love in each other and although we will never know how long humankind will last or if it will last, the most important thing is that they have each other 😭 (that really is what humanity is all about).

intriguing concept and story. i like the narrator and his perception on things. its interesting to read about all the events (i.e. mass murder) from his pretty nonchalant perspective. the translation isn’t the greatest at parts, but i do think it’s one of the better translations i’ve read for the genre. overall, i like the characters so i’ll be reading the next book.

I am sobbing crying, shitting, vomiting, shaking, giving birth rn. I waited literally an entire 2 YEARS (yes you heard me right. Years) for the official translation of this to come out so I could support the author and translation team instead of reading the fan-translations as I usually do with Chinese novels.

The. Wait. Was. SO. Worth. It.

This story literally hit everything perfect for me….amazing sci fi post-apocalypse world, super slow-burn romance, hella good character development, and so many philosophical lines that I’m half tempted to shelf this as philosophy (LOL).

I would die for An Zhe, that’s all I’m saying. He’s just a little mushroom. The sweetest little mushroom ever. (God maybe I want to get a mushroom tattoo now…) (EDIT: I got a mushroom tattoo. Not purely because of this book though LOL!)

Was mentally preparing for a sad ending, I am glad to say that this has a happy ending.

Just some advice though, don’t get attached to anyone if you want to save yourself the heartbreak. Not even the MC and ML…if I were you. :)

EDIT: on a side note, I’m SO happy that how An Zhe views death isn’t “kill everyone bc fuck the universe” but also isn’t a pure damsel in distress sweet summer child: “omg no!! You can’t be killing people it’s bad!!!” Like how most MCs in the post-apocalypse act in romance-themed novels. The author managed to find an ACTUAL MIDDLE GROUND that fits realistically into the post-apocalyptic world and I wish that more western writers could do this as well with MCs
