"'It's important to me that Delphi sees me being resilient, but I also need her to see me handling change even when it feels scary and hard. And change often is scary and hard, isn't it?'
The three women were silent and she had a feeling she'd struck a chord.
'Yes.' Anna's voice was thickened. 'Change can be very hard, particularly when it's something you haven't chosen. You want to freeze time.'
Hattie saw Erica glance at Anna and had a feeling there was more to the comment that simply an astute observation on human behavior. Either way, Anna was right about sometimes wanting to freeze time. That was essentially what she'd done since Brent had died."

Three book club friends and the owner of an inn (and potential new family member) meet up for a week in December, in snowy Vermont. My first Sarah Morgan read and it was lovely - uplifting and seasonal escapism. I found it a little slow initially, as the scene was set, but escapist, romantic fiction doesn't need to be pacy, it needs to be savoured! I enjoyed getting to know the four female protagonists: dependable and soon-to-be 'empty nester' Anna, independent and on-a-mission Erica, spirited but lost Claudia and widowed but determined inn-owner, Hattie and her sweet young daughter, Delphie. There's also a love interest for Hattie, in rugged neighbour Noah.

A gorgeous setting in a quaint North American town with plenty of characters and a wonderful independent bookstore. There's heartache and change for the main characters, but reassuringly a happy ending is guaranteed, knowing they will all triumph over adversity. Warm, comforting and escapist, this won't be my last read by this author.
