~made me smile (0,5/0,6) unexpectedly yes, mostly aiken and astra. aiken was unintentionally funny and astra was such a mastermind that it made me grin whenever we found out smth she was hiding
~got me hooked in (0,8/1) i didnt rly have motivation to read at the beginning bcs it isnt the type of books i usually read but then it became more enjoyable and i wanted to know what was going to happen
~bored me (-0,05/-0,2) a bit at the beginning but then it was cool af
~writing (0,3/0,5) some flaws like too much dialogue (but that's just a me thing) but still enjoyable, one thing that i would change is maybe give more attention to aiken and elena's trauma due to aiken losing a hand and elena having killed someone but i feel like that's smth that might be explored in Clandestine so yeaa
~made sense (0,4/0,6) at the beginning i didnt know what was happening (i still dk but now it's in a good way) and it took a while till it made sense to me so yea
~favorited (0,5/0,7) idts but it was still good tho, not rly my usual genre but yea
~moved me (0,3/0,6) not rly tho i was left speechless by what was happening a lot so ig it did
~surprised me (0,5/0,5) well i knew smth was off but didnt know what and when i realized what it was my jaw dropped. also El going full on chop chop swing swing on Parkes was amazing. and also aiken losing a hand wtff like dude Sera rly went for the innocent one.
~characters (0,5/0,5) Aiken Frost, my fav boy tbh like he was just so unintentionally funny and so innocent like aaaa sfsjnf love him and now he has a metal hand, so coooool, plus he loves plants and is a genious when it comes to plants and it reminded me is Neville from hp (i used to love him when i was in my HP era). Astra Aracelli, my fav girl like wtf absolute mastermind and shes just so cool and sketchy fjfnfjs i love it like aghhh and now she's an alien??? love her even more, like the way she was keeping so much from the others made me grin sometimes cs like dnfjdsnf go off queen, plus she could do what some of the others could and thats just so bbg of her. Zola Reed, she was also cool af, and adventurous like if it wasnt for her wandering around the university they wouldn't have found the message on the wall, and also she codes? like love me a coding girl aaa love the hackers sjsdf and she made a whole ass code just to spite her teachers, how cool is that. Katya Leonova, my second fav girl like she was just amazing djdnjfwdf loved her friendship with Aiken, also she's russian and i love when ppl speak english with a russian accent (i dont remember is this is the case but still), plus she build a gian telescope so props to that. Elena Valdivieso, tbh she was a bit meh to me untill she went full on chop chop swing swing on Parkes, queen moment. and i also felt like that slap to Zola was a bit unnecessary, a bit of talking could've avoided it. Hanbin 'Henry' Lee, he was alr, i liked him tbh, like supercomputer tech genius? count me in. plus dad friend? ilobeit. Alyssa Clark, she was also a fav of mine tbh, she was so interesting like dhswdnsj loved her sm and she can read any being's minds??? (not realy and its thru a serum but stilll aaaaa queen asf). Mary Newman, she was also a bit like El for me like i didnt rly pay much attention to her so i dont rly remember much abt her but i remember that her fight with alyssa felt a bit childish and unnecessary like yalls been best friends for idr how long so yea it could kinda been avoided. also i loved the fact that they were best friends but they had a fight, it felt like how a real friendship works (im contradicting what i said but it made sense in my head so dont come @ me). Nasra Dabiri, miss girl neuroscientist liked her a lot tbh shes just so cool, mom friend frfr plus lets not forget that she was the one who came up with the idea to make the clones so yea, pretty much the second mastermind. Isaac Kim, not a mc but he was still cool tbh and he was the superior mastermind tbh, changing the applications? the message on the wall? knowing abt astra? fucking loved him tbh

I love a good dark academia story and this one really delivered. From the prologue (wicked revenge) to story arcs of characters who need redemption or maybe just a little remorse, the book skips from drama to drama. The multiple POVs — sometimes within chapters— caused a little head scratching but it all sorted out in the end.

Great for fans of Naomi Novik’s Scholomance, Leigh Bardego’s Ninth House, and others along that ilk.
