Best book from the best saga i've ever read.
The themes in these books are eminently complex which gives to the saga a density than can scare some readers. However, it is thanks to and not because of the complexity of the book that i loved it so much. It's full of intense concepts, emotionally fascinating and intellectualy challenging.
Even if you're not familiar with the Enlightenment what rings will ring on such a deep level. Ada Palmer marks the spirits and minds with the accurary of her metaphors, her clear view on our world but most importantly her volontary optimism on our capacity to build a better tomorrow.
You have to read all of the books to understand the final one, which seem logical but even more with terra ignota and the tentacular project that it is. Ada Palmer took almost 10 years to write it down knowing that it will be hard to share it with the public from how challenging the reading of these books are.
We're far away from a page turner, here you have to appreciate to take time to understand everything : there's many characters, their names can be similar, the way they express themselves can make it difficult to understand them. Everything revolves around J.E.D.D who is impossible to understand if there's not Mycroft Canner to translate what he says. Who is he really? Is he a living god, an alien?
As i said, the Enlightenment period is omnipresent, illiade references too.
What's so moving about this book is that Ada palmer has never compromised, she remained focused in a world where people like everything that is quick or easy. You just have to read the final chapter which exposes the different opinions on the past and the future to understand it.
After the war it's about politics that is less exciting but ten time more rich in thoughtfulness, teaching and depth.
The author never picked the easy way out and if you managed to read all of the books you understand why she didn't, you know that you have masterpiece, something monumental, the culmination of her genius.
It's the first time that i cry after finishing a book from how happy i am. We need more Ada Palmers, authors that will write what they want and not what the public wants.
10/10 is a euphemism at this point.
Ada, thank you.
