An illuminating memoir of a father's experience living through his daughter's mental breakdown during the summer between her Gr. 9 and Gr. 10 year. How does a loved one's mental health status affect those around them? What do you do when there's nothing you can do, feeling powerless to protect your child against herself and the monsters within? Feeling at-fault, broke, and full-of-questions, Michael Greenberg navigates the humid days of summer between their apartment, the hospital where his daughter Sally is being kept, and then her out-patient clinic, while also dealing with relationships with his ex-wife and her current husband, his own wife, son, and the intrusive, assuming landlord.

It was painful to read as it was a heartbreaking parent's perspective. However, I wasn't as interested in the book as I expected to be.
