Possibly my favourite so far? Truly the Beaudelaires are growing and facing choices, thinking about what is wrong, what is right, what they want to be and become in the face of villainy. Still they are naive about certain things—things it feels like they should know by now, but also it is who they are which is nice as well. Sunny is coming into her own and I love her so much.

If anyone deserves to be Esme and Olaf's daughter it's Carmelita Spatz. Also, such a good installment showing the growth of our characters especially Sunny; cooking and ploting and being an undercover spy for this entire book.

Hardest Serve:
The Hostile Hospital - Esme Squalor for her 'actual stilleto' heels
The Carnivorous Carnival - Madame Lulu for literally using paperwork to tell the 'future' and then literally falling into a pit of lions
The Slippery Slope - Sunny Baudelaire - for growing up so fast and learning how to plot even faster

*Honorable mention* - Violet Baudelaire - for getting her man and inventing any and everything this book to save the day and doing it with solid moral fortitude

Love interest part 1 (?) the kidnapping of a Beaudelair, an expansion of a baby’s interest in cooking and the introduction of even worse villains.

It’s one of the two books that I keep forgetting when listing the entire series, but still a good story where V.F.D. is elaborated on even more.
