As a kid during Lance's 7 yellow jersey reign, I placed him on a superhuman pedestal (rightly so, it turns out). Even after he admitted to cheating, I was in denial about the extent, so I both really enjoyed and hated this book at the same time. Hamilton essentially describes Lance as Regina George on steroids, but as much as this account portrays Lance as a total jerk, it also puts the sport of cycling as a whole in perspective. It's not a book solely about Lance, but the systemic corruption from top to bottom. Very interesting and easy to read.

Lessons: lose weight and take drugs
Understandably one sided account

Read this if you're interested in what's actually been happening in pro cycling over the last 20 years! Scary. Lots of familiar names from watching Le Tour growing up, cast in quite the shadow.

Interesting.

Simply, the most believable version of events. Read this book.

Wow.

I have to admit that when Hamilton initially came out with his accusations, I was one of the doubters who thought perhaps he was bitter from being caught and wanted to bring down everyone else with him... this book opened my eyes to other possibilities -- it's amazing what these guys do to their bodies to compete at that level. Makes you realize there are few professional athletes who are heroes out there, no matter how badly we want to put them up on that pedestal.... I do hope that when Armstrong finally comes clean he doesn't use cancer or anything else as an excuse and takes responsibility for his actions. Hamilton obviously made his share of bad choices and owns up to that - if he hadn't, the book wouldn't have had the same impact.

a somewhat depressing but fascinating story from the inside of the doping scandals of the early part of the century. Told with great honesty and not too much self-pity. It's very clear that Armstrong is a total piece of shit and that many people knew much more than they want to say.
