This book is about fierce friendships, learning to never apologise for who you are, and that disabilities do not define you.

And that sometimes, you can fall in love so gently that you might not even notice.

I loved it.

::screams into the void::

This book gave me too many feeeeeeeeeeeelingsssssssssss........!!!

Jesus, this stupid book.

I have a hard time reading Manga. Even when I was reading Full Metal Alchemist basically steadily back to back, my eyes still bounced around too much to keep everything in a decent order. I can mostly make sense of the storyline, but a lot of nuance gets lost on me.

I lost a lot of nuance here. For which I'm grateful, since the story already gave me feelings heartburn.

This is the story of Taichi, a poor boy who is struggling to work and keep himself fed. He basically stumbles over Kohei after falling out of a tree. He apologizes profusely while drooling indiscreetly over Kohei's delicious looking lunch. Kohei offers him his lunch, then slips away, leaving Taichi curious. And well fed.

Turns out Kohei is hearing impaired, and has a reputation for being stand offish and antisocial. But he's a student in need of a note taker, and Kohei really appreciated the food, so a tentative friendship is born.

Kohei's hearing is rapidly deteriorating, but he can hear Taichi's voice. And his world "behind the curtain" starts to open up.

And that is the start to this RIDICULOUS BOOK. RIDICULOUS.

::flaps hands around unintelligibly::

This is such a sweet story. It's an easy story, but there's so much underlying tension that you can't help feeling. These boys understand each other, but don't, and you just want to reach through the pages and arrange things to help them both. Their relationship is so good, so sweet, so real. Again with the reaching through the pages.

I feel like the rep here is so important, so real, so painful. People want to help Kohei in all of the worst ways, including a girl who wants to take care of him LIKE IN THE MOVIES!

Taichi's reaction was my reaction.

Seriously, I need to stop listening when Jes tells me to read books that sound like they'll make me schmoopy.
