It was a good book, but hard to read sometimes. The dystopic “if a woman can’t have a baby, she’s a witch who needs to be hanged” tone is rough to stomach in the current political climate. But I liked the characters, the plot, the ending, and the prose. The novel successfully examined the themes it set out to examine, and left me with a lot of thoughts and feelings. It’s just not the kind of book I’m in a place to dolly enjoy right now.

This book definitely had highs and lows but I really enjoyed this look at early feminism and the plight of women under the oppression of religious society.

Feminist adventure set in the wild wild west

A thrilling and inspiring story about a woman who knows she's worth more than the fate she is assigned. I loved the immediate focus on science and feminism, especially set in a time where these were not popular topics.
The characters were diverse with fascinating backstories and the author wasn't shy in taking them away from us.
Loved the happy ending, I was positive we weren't going to get one.

Such an interesting book! It wasn’t what I expected, but not necessarily in a bad way. It was rewarding to read about Ada finding her meaning in the world. That being said, it felt like the last third of the book was a little rushed and the ending wasn’t super satisfying. I think it could have been a little longer. 

All in all, I liked it!

Ok I would rarely say this.... but this could've been longer I think.. I wish some of the issues had been more explicitly expressed, or we had more backstory to go off of, even if it was in the form of flashback type stories
