Recently I've been thinking of some of my favourite books. The ones that left an effect on me to this day even if I read them years ago. I could make a list but it'll always be much smaller compared to the book I've read last year. I think this book is a new addition to that list. It was such an amazing book, sort of reminded me of break my heart 1000 times by Daniel Waters. These two books are so emotionally relatable and suspenseful it keeps you wanting to read t'ill the end. That's exactly what I did. This book particularly was so suspenseful, I couldn't wait t'ill everything tied up in the end and made sense. It was sweet and just purely amazing that I highly recommend it. The characters reflected a stereotype but also reality at the same time that made it much more relatable and I loved how each character had a clear personality that you can differentiate between them. I imagine the setting in the 1980's for some reason and it reminded me of Stranger Things, I have no idea why but this book was just so amazing that I am emotionally shook and will not be able to stop thinking about it for a while.

I found this book really intriguing. I wasn't expecting it to quiet Finnish how it did but that was good as it was anything but predictable. In some ways you can really relate to this book and in a weird way it's rather realistic even though its about the paranormal.

If you want a book that is about the paranormal but still want a girls romance element to it. This is the book!!!

I rate it 4.5 stars

I've been wanting to read this book for a while now. I was expecting it to be similar to Don't Look Back, and I guess, in many ways, it was, but it was also very different. I like how it presents the idea that nobody is born a bad person; sometimes things just happen that make people act horrible. I enjoy Jessica Warman's writing style; it flows well and enables me to read her books for hours at a time without needing a break. This isn't a book that has changed my life, but it was a very entertaining and intriguing story. It was different in a very good way.

Death. Ghosts. Popularity. Intrigue and Mystery.

These are just a few words to sum up this new book by author Jessica Warman. When I saw the cover, I was instantly intrigued to find out more. When I read the summary, I was interested in the story. I wanted to know more about the characters and the experience the book was going to tell within the pages.

Liz has always been popular and pretty. She has a great boyfriend and people who love her. When she discovers a body in the water next to her Father's boat, she realizes she is looking at herself dead in the water. She doesn't remember what has happened and can't remember much about her life. Then Alex appears on the scene with her. He tells her what he knows in small portions at a time. He tells her that she is on a journey that she needs to complete. Liz knows she remembers Alex, but she doesn't remember everything about him until she ventures further into the investigation of her death. Secrets will be revealed, along with self discovery of herself.

I absolutely loved the writing of this book. I felt like I was on the journey with Alex and Liz throughout each chapter. I cried and I cheered for Liz as she tried to figure out the puzzle that has no picture to help her complete it. I wanted to hug Alex and comfort him as well when we were shown glimpse's of his past and family.

The ending was beautifully written as well and I couldn't have asked for a better one. Now that I have discovered the great writing of this new to me author, I can't wait to see what else she has to offer to her readers!

The beginning was slow for me, and alex was annoying because he kept repeating the same thing.
Obviously!
But i loved the book and it was amazing how everything clicked in the end, alex's death, Josie's sudden jealousy for her sister and betrayal, even Richie's sadness and "attraction" to Josie.( If you can call it that.) What really surprised me was how steely cold and calculating Josie could be. I mean, how long has she been this much of a jealous, manipulating, wannabee? Probably since her mom married Liz's dad. That's sad and not to mention no one noticed this! I mean come on! They lived with her and they didn't notice how cruel she was?
Anyway, I loved the book and the way it ended, the only thing i would've liked is if a miracle happened and she could talk to Richie and he could actually see her. That would have made my day. But the ending was good enough.

Liz seemed to have everything: her boyfriend was the hottest guy in school, she was the queen bee of the cool crowd, her father bought her anything she wanted, and she was incredibly beautiful. She was all these things, until she died on her 18th birthday. Now, she’s stuck in limbo on earth with a boy from her school who was killed a year before. Together, they slowly regain memories of their lives, and try to piece together who killed him, and why Liz died. In the process, Liz learns many lessons about how to be a good person that she never learned in life.

After picking up Between, I immediately felt like I’d read this book several times in the last year. Pretty popular girl dies, life is revealed through flashbacks, we see that she wasn’t nice, and she learns the error of her ways. Some books with similar plots: 7 Souls by Barnabas Miller and Jordan Orlando, Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison, and The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade. Even though I felt like I knew exactly what to expect, and how the mystery would resolve (I was right), I still found myself getting sucked into this book.

At the beginning, main-character Liz is downright obnoxious. She feels superior to everybody around her, and seems more concerned by the state of her water-logged body as they fish her out than the fact that she’s dead. However, the book slowly goes into a character study revealing why she is the way she is, and how she’s created a persona to protect herself from something terrible that happened to her early in life. Like Liz, many of the supporting roles in this book turn out to be fully fleshed-out characters, complete with flaws and layers.

If you haven’t read any of the books I mentioned above, pick up this book. It’s less intense than 7 Souls, but much more serious than Here Lies Bridget or The Ghost and the Goth. And even if you have read those books, you may still really enjoy Warman’s writing and the way she teases out the solution to the mystery of these two deaths.

When I first picked up this book, I really didn't know what to expect. Ghost stories can vary so much, and some can just be awful. But this is one of the ones that I really enjoyed. I finished it in 2 days, which is really fast for me. Between has definitely made me a Jessica Warman fan!
