Okay but, at least The Will said something sensible. There is need for therapy. I need therapy and I live on a boring planet (partly after reading this).
Alana has suffered a miscarriage, which gives her short-lived magical powers but is also killing her. The family travels to another planet for an abortion, but she's too far along for the legal doctors to help her. The sf/f setting lets them take a fantastical approach; for example, Alana creates an illusion of the son they lost, and interacting with him hurts but also kinda helps them come to terms with his loss. But the comic also doesn't shy away from the basic physical realities of an incomplete miscarriage or a D&C, or the way personal beliefs and legal constraints can complicate an already difficult experience. I thought this was a really well done, very nuanced take on abortion and pregnancy loss.
Meanwhile, the Will is getting tortured. Sad to say, I lost interest in this character many trade paperbacks ago. I keep thinking we're finally quit of him and then he pops up again. Go away, The Will! And we see Gus caring for baby prince robot, who seems to have a sensitive soul.
All in all, the art is as beautiful and evocative as ever, and the story is moving along, mostly in ways I like. I'm always happy when Hazel's parents are together and happy, and unhappy when they're separated or having difficulties.

This was good, but it was just too political for me. I felt like instead of advancing the plot, the writers threw this volume in to check their political boxes. I just feel like the readers of this comic are old enough to have their own developed opinions and don't really need authors telling them how to feel on certain issues. Having said that, I like the humor used to describe the politics and I do like how both sides were reviewed.
Certain parts of this felt a bit heavy-handed. The art is, as always, spectacular.
Content notes: miscarriage and abortion, a suicidal character, violence.

Fiona Staples's artwork is so beautiful. I think it is the best part of these novels.
The adventures of a very unlucky family continues! With the recent tragedy that's struck them, they must now find a solution to a terrible problem.
Don't want to leave any spoilers in this review. All I can say is that this is one of the volumes I've enjoyed the most in a while. Looking forward to the next one!

Felt different than the others. Not sure what to make of this. Barely anything happens, plot-wise. The writing isn’t as strong. Feels preachy at times. Hm.
