I haven't read the books in this series, so the graphic novel was my introduction. I am pleased to meet it. Lots of good twists and turns throughout the book.

It wasn't impressive as I thought it would be but still a decent read.

Charlaine Harris does it again. I really enjoyed this one. In the 2nd installment of this series Harper comes face to face with a case she couldn't solve. She has to try to figure it all out before she gets herself in trouble or killed. Looking forward to next book.

Another read in one day. Less odd American talk, which is always good.

Despite the fact that I knew the identity of the killer from the very first introduction, I still loved this audio book! I know some people had issues with the changes in Harper's feelings toward another character, but since I knew that before I started the series and was actually surprised when it didn't come up in the very first book, it didn't bother me.

In some ways this is a better book than the first one, mostly because while in Grave Secrets Harper was CONSTANTLY in trouble and it was all very edge of your seat, in can become exhausting and boring if your main heroine is always tied to the rail road tracks. There was a lot of repetition of Harper's past that was already explained in the first book, but it only annoyed me because I'd just finished the other book so recently. It makes it easier for readers picking up this series to know Harper and Tolliver's back story. I also found the information on lightening strike survivors and the health issues they face to be very interesting, and I'm invested in Harper's relationship with her younger sisters and her missing sister Cameron.

I really enjoyed some of the minor characters this time around (Manfred? I could be spelling that wrong since I listened to the book, anyways he was very interesting). Once the back story was out of the way, Grave Surprise was a quick read. The mystery was probably a bit to easy to figure out, but I like the narrator and I was curious how the truth would come out, and of course there's always room for a little doubt.

Can't wait to get to the rest of this series!

Nice brain candy. Still a little squicked by the love fest, but it's believable.

The second book in Harris' Harper Connelly series, Grave Surprise, was actually a...surprise. I read the first a few months ago and although it was a decent story, it didn't seem to be anything special. The only reason I picked this up again is because my mother randomly picked it off the Kindle for me to read whilst visiting recently but it turned out to be more than I expected.

Now that I knew the characters, as well as Harris lets us know them anyway, I dove straight into the story and wanted to know all of the W's when reading or writing a book. I did guess the outcome early on, but the adventure to get there really interested me. The intertwining details of different character stories was great (and i've become a fan of 'detective' stories lately!). I still have a lot of questions regarding Harper & her brother Tolliver and i'm almost certain I know where this series is heading but I actually want to find out now, rather than just being dimly curious.

One thing that I didn't like about this book is attitudes towards sex. At one point, Harper and Tolliver are heatedly discussing their sexlives and the differences between a man's and a woman's views on this. Harper states that Tolliver want sex whenever, wherever with no commitment or cares and then goes on to say, "Maybe these were typical male-versus-female attitudes about sex". I don't agree with this at all and i'm not entirely sure why it's there, or why it's even relevant. Overall I enjoyed Grave Surprise though and will continue reading the series.

I think I actually like these even more the second time around.
