Each chapter in this book is the Pope responding to various questions on topics ranging from other religions and salvation to human life and the nature of belief. It is an interesting read and gives a glimpse into the mind of one of the most well-known Christians of the 20th century. As a non-Catholic I found myself sympathetic and in agreement with much of what the Pope wrote, perhaps surprisingly. Of course, I did disagree at some points. Overall I do recommend this book for people who are interested in better understanding Catholicism.

I started reading this book during the eve of Pope Francis' [b:Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home|25882197|Laudato Si' On Care for Our Common Home|Pope Francis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1436519943s/25882197.jpg|45760481], and I was glad that there really are a lot of things that St. John Paul II has already discussed in the pages of this book (which is in fact the first time he responded to a series of secular press interviews). What I particularly liked here are the obvious philosophical undertones, whether implicit or explicit, which are evident all through out (and we see here the saint's familiarity with the thinkers of his time-- Ricoeur, Levinas, and his personal favorite Scheler). Thus, if we desire for a revival of the Catholic spirit that brought the world to new heights, this is a must-read.

Insightful and highly enjoyable. I thought it would be filled with too many details about religion and prayer, but it turned out to be more of a book that showed how the pope saw the world.

I was reading it for a religion class, but it was so slow and out-dated that I could not bear with it anymore.
