Wow! This was my fav Ted Dekker book yet! I loved all of the characters, especially the mental patients. I really enjoyed every second of this book!

This was one of the worst novels I've read in a long time. The plot was scattered at best, the characters were woefully unexplained and underdeveloped, and the action was so slow that this book really dragged on. Brad and Paradise had no interesting plot points and their "love story" was really sudden and didn't make any sense within the context of the novel. Truly bad writing.

I took this audio book because it is read by John Glover. The first half to three-quarters of the story had me, then I felt it got over-long and boring. But hey, I could still listen to John Glover's voice characterizations. The last part of the story devolved into a sappy romance that not even John Glover could save...it really seems he had lost interest in dramatizing it too.

I have read Dekker before and usually enjoy his writing, although some don't work as well. This one worked. It pulled me in quickly. I loved that you get to know the villain and hear from his view points. He is sufficiently creepy.
I didn't enjoy the lead character Brad Raines, seemed a bit of a himbo. If this was an ongoing series I may have doubts about continuing but because it is only one my lack of enjoyment in this character really didn't affect my feelings on the book.
I loved the parts in the psychiatric facility and the people there. I am not a mental health specialist but several things didn't seem to be reality. If this wasn't meant to be a thriller, it might have bothered me, but again it didn't.
This book was not faultless, but it was exactly what I wanted and expected it to be, a fast paced thriller that kept me reading late into the night.

Character dialogue feels awkward and unnatural.

God's love is infinite, and we are all his favorites. He loves us all the same.
Interesting novel with Ted Dekker's signature writing style, good vs evil, God vs Satan, and who we humans as mere mortals have to decide which part we play in the grand scheme of things.
This book also deals with metal health and intelligence. The two are not mutually exclusive and how those factors affect reasoning. All together an interesting read.

compared to BoneMan's Daughter's, ended more realistically, more "happy-ever-after-ally"

I was VERY skeptical about reading this when I first picked it up. I had read two of Dekker's earlier works, which, in my opinion, were not very well written, so I had a big bias. That idea changed maybe 50 pgs into The Bride Collector. Fast-paced, a nice little love story, guns, and serial killers. I don't think it gets much better. I had SO much trouble putting this book down to do silly things like sleep and work. Pssh. Well done, Mr. Dekker. I'll be reading your future works now.
