A decent start on my journey into true crime books. I’m a true crime lover and I’m happy to say this book really exceeded my expectations.

I'd hover between a 2.5 and 3 for this one. I expected to like it more because I have enjoyed some of Dekker's other books. But for some reason, I just didn't get this one as well. The premise was interesting and I understand the themes he was trying to portray. It just fell a little flat in terms of the characters and their choices and reactions and whatnot and I felt there were some inconsistencies. I'll definitely read more of his work, but this just wasn't a favorite.

This is super meh. Really not a fan, and some of the portrayals of both women and mental illness read as quite problematic. I won't be checking anything else out from this author.

The first few pages felt like a pretty generic thriller and had me questioning if I really still like Ted Dekker as much as I used to. By the end though, I really liked what he did with themes of beauty and love and mental health and (without using this term) neurodiversity.
