3.5 stars.

I know I read this before, but I have little to no memory of the experience. I don't know why. This story is wacky good fun in the way only a Douglas Adams story could be with holistic detectives, electric monks, annoyed horses, breaking and entering, wayward ghosts, angry secretaries, and other oddities. Quite humorous and enjoyable, as long as you don't get lost along the way.

In related news, I've just learned that there is a Dirk Gently miniseries. Based on the trailer, the miniseries tries to play it as straight as possible and there doesn't seem to be evidence of the science fiction elements from the novel, but I would have to watch the series to be sure, which I am certainly willing to do.

This book .....This book.....it has my head spinning! I feel confused while at the same time everything makes sense. As always Adams's writing has an endearing quality to it, I loved reading this book the story is interesting and engaging. That being said I also think that this book would be great as an Audio book, at times I had trouble understanding what was on the pages and it helped when I read out loud and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I listened to it rather than sitting and reading.

(This is for the audio play)
Well made, concise and less confusing than the actual book but close enough to still be very good

this was amazing

Every once in a while I will go and re-read a Douglas Adams book and I'm reminded a) how much I miss him and b) how a lot of other writers pale in comparison. His writing just flows in such a way that cannot be compared. This book was thoroughly enjoyable on a second read through. I was left feeling just as baffled as I did when I stared, but for different reasons. So smart, so sarcastic, and so satisfying. I am so happy that a new generation might discover Adam's work through things like the Netflix Dirk Gently series. Hopefully that will persuade them to read the origin stories too.

Listened to audiobook version. This was really good! I prefer it to Hitchhiker’s guide.

While it had its moments and delivered some of that dry wit the author is well-known for, this book wasn't as enjoyable as Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.
