There are different kinds of love triangles, but the type depicted in One is a Promise is my favorite because there is no cheating and no clear ā€œrightā€ choice for the heroine.

Cole was Danniā€™s first true love. Theirs was an immediate, intense attraction. Itā€™s been years since he was suddenly taken from her and she still hasnā€™t been able to move on. Trace comes along and unexpectedly becomes her second chance at happily ever after. The two men couldnā€™t be more different, but she loves them equally.

Danni is a dancer, and I love how prominent music is in her life. Some authors create playlists for their books. One is a Promise has a full soundtrack. Music is integral to the storyline, and you can tell that each song is carefully chosen to reflect the mood of the characters.

One of the most unique aspects of the book is the artwork displayed at the beginning of each chapter. Creative silhouette illustrations foreshadow the events of the chapter.

This book would have earned more stars from me if it werenā€™t for Trace. His and Danniā€™s relationship is volatile, and they resist their fierce magnetism every step of the way. Trace is very antagonistic through most of the book, so itā€™s hard to understand how Danni could so easily fall in love with him given his cold behavior and mixed signals. Itā€™s equally difficult to believe Traceā€™s sudden declarations of love.

Things become clearer toward the end, and while hindsight is a wonderful thing, it comes a little late in the story. There are aspects of Danniā€™s relationship with Cole that are glossed over. Thatā€™s not really a bad thing, though, since it piqued my interest and leaves room for more revelations in the next book.

Iā€™m trusting Pam Godwin to provide enough plot to support three full-length books. This is the first book in the trilogy, so I anticipated a huge cliffhanger. Even though I guessed pieces of the ending, there are still plenty of surprises. With intriguing characters and a huge mystery, Iā€™m looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds.

triangles are my favorite shape

no, i'm really not kidding. I think that love triangles get a bad rap and FRANKLY if they're done well they can be my favorite plot device in literature.

which isn't to call this literature, cause it's ain't. if this book were a food it would be liquid cheese, and I would be the taco.

description

and i FUCKING LOVE cheese.

the book centers around Danni who lost the love of her life 3 years prior and then a STOIC SEXY blue eyed fella enters the equation. makes her work for him (somehow after probably 20+ contemporaries this plot still doesn't piss me off???) and they fall in love.

but wait. as you probably guessed, ole boy AIN'T DEAD. and fuck you that's not a spoiler. you saw it coming. but there is a LOT of other stuff that I didn't anticipate and that you won't either.

the characters are a little under developed and the plot moved along a little quickly, but I loved Danni. after getting over her BOLD ass moves in the first couple of chapters I really appreciated her no bullshit outlook and narrative. she rocked.

and this book was like... not anything special? but it kept me entertained and i like it a whole lot. if you want some fluff, add this to your list.

warning: dubious consent, OW issues sort of, extreme alphas

I didn't know what this book was about because I got it for free by pressing random buttons but HOLY SMOKES. I finished it one sitting(A little les than 4 hours). The beginning feels like the author was just edging us on, but in the best way possible. Not to mention how she made the flashbacks with Danni's previous lover low through so nicely. This book was more than an erotica. I can't explain it, you'll just have to read it. The only reason I gave it four stars was because THAT ENDING- WE DIDN'T NEED THAT. Now I have to go mow my grandma's lawn to get some money so I can get my skeletal fingers on the next two books in this series.
