Honestly, This is one of the most biased reviews I will write this year. Dracula has always held a special place in my heart for Victorian Horror and it's endless ability to be looked at and dissected through different lenses. Forever, this book will be a 5 star rating in my heart and in my eyes.

In reality this book is probably a 3.5 - 4.0.

I LOVED IT!!! Highly highly recommend to lovers of vampires and classic novels. I wanted to read it after watching Nosferatu (2024) because I was obsessed with that movie and wanted to read/watch what it was based off of. I went into it not realizing it was diary entries but it was very refreshing since I've never read a book formatted that way before. During the second half it was a little harder to follow along and keep track of all of the details but it was still very enjoyable to read everyone's perspectives. The ending really shocked me, I feel like we spent so long in anticipation and then everything happened so fast I couldn't put down the book for a moment I was so entranced. Love was definitely the theme of the book, the amount of love the character's expressed for eachother was so beautiful and really connected me with all of them for their empathy and compassion.

So I did the audio for this one which included Alan Cummings and Tim Curry. So... we had more Cummings then Curry which was a drab because Tim Curry is a fantastic narrator. Just listen to him narrate A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The format of journal entries, which the audio did make it easier to get through. I will say, this format does make is a bit of a struggle to read sometimes.

I will admit that I did tune parts out - this was in part to the story just lost me - which happens and does not mean it is a terrible book it just my ADD kicking in. This even happens when I’m reading a physical book too.

I did enjoy the different narrators for each of the characters - it made it feel more like a drama than a book. This also help to break down each chapter down and the book to make it more digestible. I just wish there was more Curry.

4.5/5
I really do love a good gothic book and this really delivered. I expected the writing to be quite dated and clunky, as is normally the case with older books, but Bram Stoker's writing is very accessible and beautiful to read. I'm really glad I got to read Dracula because I gotta say,,, I do love vampires (they're so cool) and learning the ✨Vampire lore✨ was awesome!
(also sidenote: Van Helsing was 100% fruity...i mean him and John had smth going on and it wasn't very cishet of them tbh)

The narrators are fantastic!

I would've DNFed if I was reading with my eyes and not my ears. first part of the book was so strong, I was loving it. The setting and storytelling was so good that I was actually getting a little creeped out listening to Jonathan's journals.

once Mina and Lucy are brought into the narrative, Mina carries the story and everyone puts her on a pedestal and we can't go a page without a man gushing over her man brain. there's (I think, since I listened to it) pages of nothing in the story happening and just them yapping about how amazing Mina or Lucy is. and then all the action is at the end. I listen to audiobooks to stay awake sometimes, and I managed to fall asleep on the floor SEVERAL times listening to this snooze of a plot.

very shocked after seeing high reviews that this is *the* classic vampire book. vampires WHERE?!
