This is one of those that I really wanted to like more than I ended up. I'm interested in the second volume, because this volume created interest but didn't really deliver narrative satisfaction. Solid art but not a book I'm likely to rip off the shelf to go over the art again.

The best comic on the stands for the last couple years gets a gorgeous hardcover worthy of its awesomeness.

One of the best comic books I've read in many years. Intentionaly derivative in the way of Watchmen, but playing with the tropes of the golden age (e.g. original Justice Society). Does a great job of balancing the old sensibilities with modern expectations and telling an excellent story.

Good story. And...

Comics publishers, would it kill you to make it ultra obvious where a series begins? I read volume 1 of this series, then was like, "oh, shit, that's not the start." Then it totally was.

Also, a little tip: I read a lot of comics digitally, and if the volumes can have really obvious numbering ON THE COVER, that'd help. I know, you used to be able to put it into the graphic design or on the spine, but digital comics don't display the spines.

I'm reading Sandman, and it's like Sandman: Preludes and Nocturnes. So...is that volume 1, then?

And sometimes the title has the volume like this: Sandman: Preludes and Nocturnes (Sandman 1). Which is good, but most devices will display it like this:

Sandman: Prelud...

Which really doesn't help.

I know this sounds insane, but a little bit of adaptation from the print to digital would be cool.

Imprescindible, especialmente para los que llevamos toda la vida amando a los superhéroes. Qué vergüencita no haberlo leído antes.

Das Comic ist eine nette Homage an das Golden Age, aber absolut ereignissarm. Man hätte es locker um 80% kürzen können... aber dann hätte es noch immer keine Handlung gehabt.

Quite a wonderful comic book, and superheroes at some of their best in quite a while (hopefully this part of my review won't age poorly). Lemire always retreats back to familiar territory, but he does in a way you don't get mad.

Putting superheroes in a character-driven indie comic set in the countryside? More engaging than it sounds like! It's only problem for now it's is place as a build up that doesn't quite release itself at the resolution. Let's see if Lemire's ideas are still as great as his characters...

I really like Jeff Lemires work. Usually his work on superheroes just doesn’t connect with me, but this was really fun and definitely drew me in.
