4.5 stars. I finished this book last night and can’t stop thinking about it. Is Connie’s story the story of a marginalized, poor, Latina woman unjustly “caught in an uncaring system”, whom, by time travel magic is able to communicate with those from the future? Or….Is it a look in to the mind of a mentally ill woman in which she imagines (hallucinates) a better, more just and egalitarian future for humankind? Either way, I’m sure this book will stick with me for a while.
I haven’t been this rattled by a book in a long time.
This was bad. Just so so bad. Had I not been reading it for a book club, I never would have bothered finishing it.
THIS WAS AMAZING AND I LOVE IT TO DEATH EVEN THOUGH IT WAS HORRIFYING AND DEPRESSING TO READ AND MADE ME CRY AND HATE THE WORLD.
There was so much I liked about this book (the characters, the time travel, and the future world) and so much I didn't. I liked a lot of the theories and practices in the future world and wished Connie could have/would have been a bigger part of it whether it was there (I know she was an observer mostly) or in her own time where she could have incorporated more of the ideologies into her own life. I struggled with the ending a bit. I guess each reader has to figure out what it means to them. (Ambiguous, I know.)
If someone really wanted to read this, I would say "Go for it. There's enough here to make it a good read." But if you're already kind of "meh," then I would pass.

Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy wasn't quite what I was hoping for. I wasn't invested in the story, the characters, or their world nearly as much as I should have been. I'm glad I listened to the audiobook because otherwise I might have had to put this down just due to lack of interest.
