The Storm Thief

It was a generic YA novel. Nothing more, nothing less.

This was a pretty good book, though I had some reservations. It started out well and continued to build, but near the end it seemed to falter, and the ending (at least to me) was rather unsatisfying. It's an interesting book in a world filled with dark creatures, centered around a young man who lives as a thief. The concept is genuinely intriguing and for the most part it's very well-written, but I personally found the last few parts of the book to be lacking, given its potential.

Storm Thief is a weird book with a weird premise that sometimes doesn't make sense unless you squint at it and tilt your head slightly to the left. Even so, Storm Thief is still a fun story (well, relatively speaking, seeing as it's in a super depressing world and all). As a whole, Storm Thief has a very interesting story line about chaos and order.

Storm Thief tells about Rail and Moa, two thieves living in their ghetto who make a discovery during a heist that leads them to trying to escape from the life fate had dealt them. It's also about Vago, a golem who has no idea who he is. ALSO, it's about Bane, the mysterious leader of the Secret Police of Orokos. Lastly, it's about Finch, a fellow thief of Rail and Moa's who is tailing them to discover what they stole from his thief mistress. Overall, it's how their stories overlap and become something that affects Orokos.

Orokos is an interesting city because it's plagued by the probability storms, which is a really interesting concept that I really enjoyed. When probability storms go through Orokos, they can change anything, such as taking away Rail's ability to breathe on his own. The threat of the probability storms and what they can bring is something that's always present in the story.

As a story, Storm Thief is a lot more action driven than character driven, which may be a turn off for some people. For me though, that made it an interesting story. As such, I think it's a niche kind of tale, but one that works.

I am not a fantasy nut, but I really liked this book. Wooding has a talent with descriptive sentences, and he paints very clear pictures of this out of control dystopia. The characters are strong and you care about them, even the bad guys. And in fact, a lot of the characters are both good and bad, which is sort of one of the underlying themes. Non-stop action in this one, too. Worth the read.

Wow. I just finished reading this book, and I am blown away. The concept is insane- clever, and thought-provoking, and absolutely mind-blowing. I'm amazed. As for the book itself, I hardly even need to say anything. It was absolutely amazing. Great plot, interesting, well thought out characters, and great writing. I was slightly deterred by the weird cover for a while, but once I got to reading it it was hard to put down. By the end, I couldn't stop reading. Fans of fantasy, sci-fi, utopian/dystopian literature, read this book. Now.

I loved this book when I was younger. I straight up took a hardback from a teacher when I saw it was in her classroom because I loved it so much. I honestly still go back to it and read it even thought I’ve read it about a dozen times already. I love these characters and I love the story they tell.

I remember reading this as a kid, when I found it again at a thrift store I was so excited!

Any anxiety I had about it not holding up evaporated within the first chapter <3

Though it is most definitely written for young adults, there are still complex themes that are handled age appropriately.

And The characters T-T
I just want to keep them safe but the plot can't have that.

One of my favorite books from my youth <3
