3+ish stars.
The authors writing style I liked. And I was intrigued enough with the story I stayed up late to finish it (that’s not usually what I do). But…. I just wasn’t into the big plot point.

I-…. I’m gonna need some time to process this one……

“We stare at each other. I experience a sensation of weightlessness, like cresting the peak of a high hill on a roller coaster, that split-second lack of gravity before you plummet over the edge”

The plot of this book was completely different to anything I’ve read, and I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
I couldn’t put it down and I didn’t want it to end.
It was painful, soul searching and had me questioning everything……at times I wondered how things were going to work out and how heartbroken I was going to be when it finished.
I loved how strong Megan was (and kinda crazy) and I loved Theo.
This was a beautiful and unique story. I loved it.

OMG, I wish I could give this book even more stars! It was haunting and beautiful and sweet! I absolutely loved this story! I'm a sucker for these types of stories, I find reincarnation fascinating, I'm not sure if its something I believe in or just want badly to believe in, but its definitely something I enjoy thinking about. The whole 'love lasts longer than a lifetime' thing, in its most basic and elemental definition I believe in it. I think the heroine is lucky that she finds that love, and luckier still that it doesn't die with her husband. This book was just so close to perfect, with everything I look for, it made me laugh, it brought tears to my eyes, it made me think and it made me feel. And *sigh* THEO! Who doesn't love a broken brooding hero? This was just powerful and emotional and moving, I loved it, you need to read this book!

I am such a sucker for a story like this. Two devastated people who run headlong into one another and have no idea what to do. There are paranormal elements but they didn’t overtake the story. I love the snark and the spark. There were some parts that were a bit over the top but I liked the characters and the overall story.

I am so torn on this book. The writing is really good but I absolutely hated the plot. Theo Valentine - who is he? We don't really get to know him at all through the whole story. I felt sad that this poor guy had a really bad accident and woke up with someone else's memories - it was just so depressing because what about the real Theo? It reminds me of that show ghost whisperer when the main characters husband dies but he's not ready to let go so he basically steals some other guys body. Like, how unfair is that to poor Theo? I know I'm taking this way to seriously but I read this book over the last 3 days and it pissed me off. Megan was obsessed with her dead husband and never loved Theo, she loved his "Cass" memories. Poor Theo and anyone who loved him as he was before the accident. This book left me super depressed and angry which is why I gave it two stars.

This was my first by J.T. Geissinger, which just means I have an entire backlist to catch up on! I adored this book. I went into it not knowing much, and I think everyone who reads it should do the same, but this book was emotional and full of angst and grief. But in the best possible way, that makes you keep turning the pages and staying up too late, ignoring the adulting to be done.

An unusual story.
Quite emotional in parts.
HEA.

**4.5/5-Stars**

Uniquely powerful and oddly fantastical, Midnight Valentine told an unusual love story with heavy undercurrents of heartbreak and second chances. In working with two characters with an abundance of loss–a widowed heroine and a hero who lost himself after a horrific accident–there was a risk of having so much sorrow that hope couldn’t find its way in, but Geissinger found the perfect balance that captured the anguish without negating the prospect for something wonderful finding its way in.

The universal likability of Megan was felt instantly upon opening this novel. Her cynicism and pessimistic nature along with her shield of sarcasm made her character feel real, palpable, and quite humorous at times; she wasn’t without scars and tools for preventing anyone getting close to her, and she wouldn’t have felt as evocative as she did without any of that. The grief and anguish bled through the pages, and became a living entity, and when Megan and Theo inhabited a scene together, those emotions swelled, but slowly became tinged with a growing attraction. The push-pull and tension that radiated between them was ever-growing, but through each encounter they continued to evolve and take a step forward in not just healing but moving on, too. That slow build and magnetism between the two was wonderfully done and created a very organic and natural feeling of coming together–and so well-fitting for a couple with their level of baggage.

Oftentimes unique is thrown around pretty easily, but the premise of this love story is very much a unique tool for bringing two people together. And though I can’t speak of it without giving a lot away, I was honestly surprised I fell into it the way I did. I believe it was how well the characters were written, how beautifully the buildup to the crescendo was, that I was able to swallow up the fantastical elements. In case that sort of wording scares you, there’s nothing paranormal involved; it was purely an added effect to a love story that felt otherworldly. Only because there was a bit of ambiguity about a certain piece at the end was this not a true 5-star read.

Midnight Valentine was simply a beautiful love story. One that will have you believing that anything is possible. The characters were brave and resilient, but markedly true to their separate forms of trauma, and I adored them and the entire story from beginning to end.
