This book! Of course this is how this series ended. Absolute perfection.

Actual Rating
Utterly stunning. I'm blown away by the writing in this book- the author did a phenomenal job of raising the stakes so high, making the character motivations so sticky but so strong, and blurring the lines between right and wrong. The character development in this was also stellar. Just... everything about this book was so, so well done.

“There will be blood. There will be more than enough. The world is about to grow in it”

Definitely more like a 3.5*

I did enjoy the book but I had some problems…
Like, why the different points of view?
I personally think it would have been much more powerful if Felix’s POV wasn’t present. And let’s not even talk about the randomness that was Luka’s POV. I mean, I really like him as a character and it was interesting reading from his perspective but, let’s face it: it was also useless.
SpoilerUseless because his chapters were mainly ONLY about his indecision regarding loving Yael or not. There’s a freaking WAR going on around him, but he just practically manages to think about our heroine.
Still I enjoyed, if only partially, reading his train of thoughts.

What really bothered me was Felix’s POV. Not knowing Felix’s side of the story would have left a great mystery and would have made the reader guess at everything; his every little action would have been analysed; everything would have been a doubt. Instead, we know what he’s plotting and everything is clear, and thus, honestly, boring. Because of this, I also found the plot twists incredibly predictable.

I would have preferred reading only from Yael’s point of view as the best chapters were hers. Also, I felt like the plot continued only during those chapters so I understand even less the adding of Felix and Luka’s perspectives. This detail dictated the pace of the book. The story was a bit more slow-paced compared to the first book but it was still enjoyable. I also liked the flashbacks that were present throughout the story as they gave more depth to the characters.

And speaking of. I did like the characters per se. I have nothing against them as I deeply adore them for they realness and their flaws. I just have problems with their points of view and what they did (not) to the story!
But Yael. Oh my baby Yale. She DESERVES A FREACKING MEDAL because she is just stunning! And after getting the medal she desperately needs a hug. She was an amazing main character: intelligent, powerful, scared, brave, determined. Simply perfect.
SpoilerBut to me the relationship between her and Luka felt a tad bit too instalovey and I really didn’t like it. I know in a way it isn’t instalove, but in the first book Luka is head over heels in love with Adele and at the beginning of Blood for Blood, PUFF! No more feelings for Adele and heart-eyes only for Yael. Like, mate, are you serious?

Towards the end, the story starts to drag a bit and the last fifty pages are just…dull, I guess.

Anyhow, an okay sequel to an amazing first book.

“She was not ready, but she was going.
She was going back to the beginning to find an end.
She was going to find the Führer. The real Führer.
She was going to finish what she’d started.”

This blew my mind. So much goodness/heartbreak in one book. Ryan Graudin’s prose is hauntingly beautiful, her plot is action packed and OH MY GOSH this book. The perfect ending to this story. I was SO satisfied, with duologies I often feel like there’s more to the story, but this was the perfect amount of time to spend with Yael and her world. The amount of research that must’ve gone into writing this is astounding. Standing ovation for Ryan Graudin, and I will definitely be reading more of her work.

Holy crap.

Just.

Wow.

It's possible that I may be able to write a more coherent review at some point. Not right now though.

COHERENT REVIEW 21NOV16:

Once again, I find myself wanting to reread a series as soon as I've finished it. (Bit of a trend here, isn't it?) This book was a total knockout. It picks up right where Wolf by Wolf left off, and the characters remain their own strong selves with their own agendas, however selfish. The climax had me on the edge of my seat and the biggest revelation left me breathless. Two books is plenty of time to spend in this alternate universe, and the ending was handled so beautifully that I don't feel the need to call for more. I loved learning about all of these characters, and they all felt so totally real. I can't call it life-changing. Maybe life-affirming would be better, especially with all the discord in the world today.

Every single person in this world matters. Because all it takes is one person to start something. One person can be a catalyst to something bigger.

I rated the first book 5/5 and this book was even more better than that... How will a 5 star suffice?
The book was so good that I was continuously begging 'please let the ending not be a sloppy'. Aaaannnddd it was not! I loved the bitter sweet ending and I know I wouldn't have been with anything else...

"Bright yellow rays shimmering inside her"

I've decided on a happy quote despite of the ending and what was done to my favourite character but I STILL LOVED IT
