Actually really enjoyed everything about this series. There was practically no let downs, good plot movement and twists, good portrayal of characters and their diff personalities. Like, fucking fantastic shit i tell ya.

[4.5 Stars] I love this series a ton. This is the conclusion to what the first book started, but it is not the end. I think what brought this one down just a tad would be that we didn't get to see a lot of the 5 dragonets. We just stuck with Sunny on her solo adventures which were great, but I was hoping to have more time with all of them. Good thing there are future books!

A nice round ending to the first arc of the series that shows that the world may not be a safe and fair place, but that doesn't mean we should not try to make it such.

Yay, Sunny is finally the main character! It's fantastic to be inside her head and to see how strong a pure-of-heart character can be.  As a goody two-shoes myself, I enjoyed seeing Sunny be the independent hero!

Minor spoiler:
And yay, we finally get to meet Sunny's parents. My guesses along the way about her father were all wrong, but the truth was satisfying. Also, it's nice to have at least one positive role model amongst the Dragonets' parents! We get further development of dragonkind's relationship to the scavengers as well.  It feels like Sunny will play a role in that.  The human-doting Smolder is my new favorite character.

Finally, big spoiler
, we get the conclusion to the war on the titular Brightest Night.  As others have said, it wraps up just a little too fast.  The outcome makes sense, but I could have used another book putting Sunny's plan into place.  I'm not sure how realistic it is for all the dragons to gather and cooperate so quickly! I feel like we've built up too much for the prophecy and war to be concluded this fast!

But props to Tui T Sutherland for making a kid's book dealing with cognitive dissonance (something else I relate to as a former philosophy major). :)

As always, narrator Shannon does a fantastic job with all the characters!

Note: This will not be a comphernsive review because this is the 5th book in a series and it is also a middle-grade book, and I have trouble writing reviews on middle-grade books.

If you have been following my reviews for a while, you know that there are multiple different series that I am in the middle of (To keep myself from getting “burned out” or bored with any one series, I like to take multiple series and read them in unison. For example, I am reading The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan, the Deltora series by Emily Rodda, and the Robert Langdon series by Dan Brown at the same time, in this pattern- book 1 of each series, then books 2, and so on.) I am also doing that with my library series (the previously mentioned series are from my own personal library. Side note, I also have the pattern of reading 3 books off my library TBR and then 1 off my personal TBR as this ensures that I spend equal time with both and no book sets on my shelves un-read for too long.) Following my many patterns (Can you tell that I have OCD tendencies yet and that I am Type A/detail-oriented?), I decided to pick up book 5 in the Wings of Fire series called The Brightest Night by Tui T. Sutherland off my library TBR.

As has become the pattern with Sutherland’s books, this one was written in the SandWing Sunny’s perspective (Every book in this series is narrated by a different dragon so that we learn to understand and appreciate each of them as characters and individuals.) I really like how we got to hear Sunny’s voice because she doesn’t get much chance to shine as the others don’t take her seriously and talk over her at lot (I can relate because people do that to me all the time). I also really liked to hear about her unique parentage (won’t divulge because of spoilers) and the themes that Sutherland was trying to introduce to children/people reading the book by using this parentage (again, won’t divulge because of spoilers but most people will understand after reading the book).

Going into this book, I was not aware that this was the end of the 1st prophecy and the beginning of a new one. However, I did like how this one ended the prophecy we had been reading about (won’t spoil but that ending was epic!!!!!! Can’t wait to see where the series goes from here!!!!!) I am really interested to see where this new prophecy takes us and what new shenanigans our dragons are going to get up to because every time I think this series can’t get any more interesting, Sutherland ups the stakes.

All in all, this was a wonderful conclusion to the 1st prophecy, and I can’t wait to see where we go from here. Keep writing, Sutherland, because I will keep reading! 5 stars!

This book was a really nice read. I think it set up a lot of things nicely without seeming like a perfect ending in the end. Things aren't quite perfect between any of the dragons, but they solved their main problem. I love the characters relationships and I really liked Smolder and Thorn they were wonderful additions to the cast!

This one is probably my favorite in the series so far! This one, and the first book, The Dragonet Prophecy. It felt like it would’ve been a good conclusion to the series, but I’m glad there’s more! This world is so addicting and fun. :)
