I enjoyed the second book more and therefore I had high expectations which didn’t get fulfilled.

I knocked it down one star because I think this really would have been a great trilogy. I'm getting sick of YA series getting stretched into 8 books because it really isn't necessary most of the time. Still great but I'm nervous about where it will go from here.

I thought this was the last book in the series, so towards the end I was worried everything would get wrapped up really quickly. BUT it turns out there’s going to be another book! So I’m thrilled with that.

I liked this book the least out of the series, just because all of the characters were separated the entire time. I like following each character on their adventures, but I definitely missed their interactions and moments together. The ending chapters were fantastic though! I loved seeing the big showdown. Can’t wait for book four!

I wish I could put my finger on the issues I have with this series. Part of it is that I don't like wars and fighting much, but it's more than that. I really love a lot of the plot points, but I run out of patience waiting for them to happen. I like the characters, but not enough to invest heavily in the plot.
I guess with this one I was hoping that it might have a bit of resolution. Although there are some major reveals that are highly rewarding, it's also obvious as we get to the final parts of the book that we are far from the end of this epic.

opinion 1: there were some parts I loved, some I didn't, some that confused me, and many, many parts where I wept, heart cleaved in two. for most of the series, the plot was sound and logical, the twists well thought and well executed, except the last book, which was all over the place. the characters hit the mark sometimes, sometimes they didn't, but they were likeable. most importantly, the series had a strong, unrelenting emotional pull, independent of its characters, something deeper and stronger  than just plot x and plot y. despite a critique here and there, I couldn't help but love the beauty of the story, the beauty of its villain, the beauty of creation, and the beauty of destruction. and that, I feel, is the most riveting aspect of the entire series.

opinion 2: know shit's bad when you are way more into the villain and the side characters than the world saving righteous main characters. the protagonists were lacking and passable, and the last book was a dumpster fire, but apart from that, this was an enjoyable series and a fun read, thanks to all the cool side characters, ruthless villains, excellent world building, and mostly well executed plot.
