It’s always hard to know whether a universe franchise will survive beyond its first major story. Lorien Legacies looks set to do that. This first book in the new series has mention of 4 and 9 but they don’t dominate. The new characters are significantly different and we are discovering new things about them that flesh out the world in interesting ways. The new bad guy/bad organization also helps to move this away from the previous series while being in the same world. I know “Fugitive Six” is out and I look forward to reading it.

Although Generation One is billed as a stand-alone novel, I do think that the prior experience and knowledge gained about the characters and the world they inhabit went a long way towards boosting my enjoyment of the book. Although many of the familiar faces pop up in Generation One, many of our main group of cast members are newly-introduced heroes and heroines, members of the ‘Earth Garde’.

Fans of the original series will perhaps be disappointed to learn that there are very few appearances from the original Garde (with the exception of Nine and a flying visit from Four) although certain fan favourites do drop in from time to time.

As the first book in this new series, it is understandable that a large chunk of the storyline is devoted to setting up the characters, the new world and environment, and outlining the basic story arc. However, this is achieved in such a way that it does not detract from the overall storyline of this individual book.

Filled with plenty of fun, action and adventure, this is a fast-paced story that keeps up the suspense throughout the entire duration of the book and continues to keep up the interest from each page to the next.

Although it has wonderful character development and an exciting plot; amusing dialogue and a diverse cast; this first installment in the Lorien Legacies sequel series is somewhat underwhelming. While all main characters are greatly developed, the issue arises of having a few too many main characters. One of the great things about the original series is that the few perspectives changed every book., but in this spinoff, readers are overwhelmed by the six backstories and six somewhat separate plotlines (although they are six good ones). The antagonists are brilliantly horrifying, however the main antagonist given to us has no real substance. The secondary group of villains is also well integrated, but overall unoriginal characters and plot get the new series off to a less-than perfect start.

This is an "off-shoot" of the Lorien Legacies series. It follows the human teenagers who were given Legacies at the end of the original series. It's fun to see some of the characters we know and I got pulled into the new characters really quickly. Their stories and new legacies create an exciting adventure story. A must-read for fans of "I am Number Four"!

I really enjoyed being back in this fictional world. I was expecting to see more of the original characters, however I did really like all of the characters we followed. The amount of perspectives did make falling into the story more difficult in the beginning, but once I knew all of the characters, slipping between perspectives was easy. Really excited to continue through this series!

There’s nothing earth shattering about these books. However, I am SO GLAD that these authors have given us what everyone always wants from a series… What happens next?

This might not be the best book I ever read. But this book made me happy. And (especially after king's cage) is so important to me.

The new characters were all intresting and funny and different. Luckily none of them were like number four. The story was logical and exciting. But the best part of this book, this serie, is, and will always be, Nine. Or should I say professor Nine.

And please, please, please, let Marianna (number 7) be their spy. Please! I'd love to see her again! Also show me some 5. Four, Six and Sam I can easily live without. Ella doesn't matter either way, as long as she stays away from my Nine!!

I've enjoyed the Lorien Legacy books quite a bit. They're short, quick reads that pack a punch.

This is the start of a new series, and I wasn't sure how it would start off with new characters, and me wanting more of John Smith and the others. However the authors seem to have nailed this spin-off, unlike Rick Riordan.

One good thing is that the original cast are not really in the book, and hence aren't a distraction from the 6 new characters.
SpoilerWe have Nine, but he seems like a different character.
Another plus was that there aren't long gaps between character view points.

We're introduced to 6 new characters, some of whom were in United as One. And a lot of new, fun legacies. These characters were fun and quirky, and they quickly captivated me.

This book has everything I loved in the Lorien Legacies - humour, heart aching feelings, friendship, romance, villains, and most of all, action.

Such books are a distraction from life. so I don't much like reality stepping in. Politics, money, greed, big cooperations, and such. This book has those in full swing, and while I didn't like it, I didn't hate it. It'll be interesting to see where this story goes.

Looking forward to more books.
