Once again, I am blown away by Sudha Murty's writing and her stories. After reading Wise and Otherwise I had high expectations from this book and it did not disappoint. This book is a collection of stories of the author's experiences in her life with many other people. Most of these stories are very heart touching and teach valuable lessons. Another thing I love about these stories is that through her, we also get to know how some of the most popular people in the country are like as human beings. There was not a single moment that I was bored while reading this book. I simply cannot wait to read the rest of her books.
If you haven't read anything by her, I highly recommend this book and Wise and Otherwise.

This was my first Sudha Murthy book. I thought it would be simple and down to earth like her. But disappointed to see only stories boasting on her ability and work.
How I taught my grandmother to read is a beautiful and touching story by Sudha Murty. As the title suggests, it is about a little girl who teaches her grandmother to read. The grandmother was very sad since she didn't know how to read and hence couldn't read a favourite magazine column when her granddaughter wasn't available to read it out to her. The journey that follows with the grand daughter's determination to teach and the grandmother's determination to learn is quite moving.
The other stories were fabulous too. Sudha Murty has a style of writing which makes ordinary incidents seem interesting. Would highly recommend this book to everyone who loves short, sweet stories!

Sudha Murty is a true storyteller. We get so engrossed in her stories that we don't even recognize that we are reading a book and not listening to her.

The stories in this book are extremely universal in their messages. There are a few references throughout that require some background in Indian culture to recognize, but nothing that will take away from the meaning of the stories if you do not understand them. The variety is fantastic--some stories are hilarious, some inspiring, some heart-wrenching. Any age can enjoy and appreciate them as well! They are best read only a few at a time to truly learn the teachings. Some of the morals taught are very blatant while some are very subtle, so you will lose much of the wisdom if you do not give each story the contemplation they deserve.
