I liked this book a lot better then I thought I would. I usually prefer paranormal or historical romance to this kind of stuff... But this was great. Loved it, and will definitely continue on with the whole series!
Troubleshooters series Book 1
This is a military romance, heavy on the romance. There were 3 different stories that tie in to build the characters and the main romance.
There was the main story of the navy SEAL and what sent him home. It had a bit of action and suspense in the possible terrorist spotting. Then the main romance with his love interest from the past.
There was the story set in the past of the parent figures.
Then there was the story of the teens.
Initially I enjoyed the side stories more then the main one. As it went on the main story did get better, I still enjoyed the side stories, but the one set in the past seemed to drag a bit. It jumped around a lot but was in a way that I still found it enjoyable. I like how things all tie together in some way.

I read this book about a year and a half before I read the others. It was a decent book, don't get me wrong, but I'm just not that into romances, and while I did like the suspense in the book, it wasn't really enough to win me over. I should probably reread it since I've now read the entire series and really enjoyed it. But basically, this is the first book in the series and it shows.
This was a surprise for me. Brockman successfully juggles multiple storylines: an old friendship, a new love affair, a terrorist plot, a WWII Resistance story, a teen romance... I'm not going to offer a synopsis. The characters are believable, clearly different from each other, which I really like. I actively despise when an author TELLS that the characters are a certain way but does not demonstrate those character traits in speech or action. The storylines are plausible - another thing I appreciate. The medical information is more accurate than in some novels - not 100%, but definitely better than average. I liked the individual components of the story and they came together to form a really enjoyable tapestry.
Book one in her Troubleshooters series.
This was not a great start to the series for me. It certainly lay the foundation for the rest of the series and setting up different characters who will get stories, but it fell pretty flat for me.
There was a lot going on in what was not a particularly long novel, and it didn’t really feel like the main romance between Tom and Kelly got the time it should have. Their relationship development was lacking, and I just found myself lacking interest in the outcome of their story.
I actually ended up being a lot more interested in the side romance than the main romance, which probably isn’t right but there you go.
The main story itself wasn’t bad, I quite enjoyed the flashbacks from the Joe and Charles, that was an interesting story just by itself. All the different threads did mash up together in the end, but I dunno, this one just didn’t work for me.

This was more the intertwining of three separate love stories than romantic military suspense. Whereas the three separate stories were interesting enough, they were too much for the suspense type story line and killed all momentum.
I was very much excited about the directions it was going with the flashbacks to WWII, but toward the end I realized that it wasn't as intelligent as I thought. My favorite storyline was Mallory, actually! I wish we'd revisited her more in later years.
3.5. It would be a 4, but I never really warmed up to Kelly! Overall, though, a good intro to the series.

There was a good story in here, but it got buried under endless repetitions of the same three sentiments. :/
