I think I was on a bit of a downer on Peter James after the last of the Roy Grace books which I didn't like so much. Dead Man's Grip was a lot of fun though, a good mix of realistic feeling cop stuff, nasty villains and enough soap opera around the central characters to keep you interested in them as well as the plot.

My favourite crime series, no doubt about it!

James' professional experience in the police force is what puts this series far above any others out there, not to mention is Stephen King-like flare for creating suspense and mystery.

Like all others in this series, the plot is well-developed, and follows a gripping growth as more clues unfold. What i especially value in the Roy Grace series are the under-lying narrative arcs of Roy and his fellow colleagues that last all the way up until the present/most recent instalment; allowing some space from the criminal world, giving us sometimes comic relief, sometimes romance, and sometimes heartache; like all the Roy Grace novels, this is a cut above the rest of the crime-authors out there!

Slower start, but really great ending. A few excellent twists and callbacks, and some really inventive and gory deaths.

Another stellar book by Peter James. This one has a completely different feel to the others. What starts out as a tragic road accident resulting in a cyclists death turns into a string of revenge killings of the involved parties. Shorter than the previous novel in the series I found this one quick paced and difficult to put down. Not only is there a high intensity investigation but a lot happens with the personal life of Roy Grace. If you find this one a difficult or slow read I beg you to stick around for the ending, which blew my mind. If you're not already hooked on the series like myself this ending will seal the deal. 5 massive stars for this one, it may be my new favourite in the series.

Dead Man’s Grip was the first Peter James book that I have read, but it won’t be my last. There was just enough back information about Detective Superintendent Roy Grace that I didn’t feel that I had missed anything by starting the series with this book. The book starts out with a horrific traffic accident involving 3 vehicles and a bicycle. While the bicyclist was truly at fault and was the only one killed, the others were definitely not guiltless in the accident –- at least in the eyes of the family of the victim. This is a superb British police procedural and I will definitely be following the cases of Roy Grace in the future.

British police procedural at its best, no wonder Peter James is the top crime writer in Britain.
