Great middle grade, ideal for starting conversations about racism and ableism with the younger ones.

If Alex Gino wasn't already my favorite children's author, they are now.  I am a huge fan of Melissa and Rick, and now this one.  Alex is amazing at talking about important topics like racial injustice and LGBTQIA+ issues (and more) in language that is understandable to children (and adults).  I have always learned something from Alex's stories.  I listened to the audio book, which features a cast of various people playing different characters, including Alex Gino.

A really quick and easy read. A book with important topics. I will not talk about what I’m not concerned about. But the story….

I really like Alex Gino writing. It’s always easy to read (well here it’s more listen). The characters are pretty great and the story lighthearted and emotional at some point.

I still prefer Melissa’s Story. But this one I a good book too.
