this book is a RIDE. it’s so wild it’s almost camp??? i loved it. the mess! i never knew what insanity was about to take place. i have never read anything quite like it. it’s fantasy but deranged and deep. miss butler, babe, you did it again.

An ending I want expecting but loved! I'm glad to see the sci-fi genre through a more biological lens, with hints of mythic fantasy to keep you guessing as to what will happen next. Also to wrap that up in different time periods for a historical fiction point of view really helps sell this story as a unique intriguing piece worth reading

I struggled with this one. I didn’t get sucked in right away, like I normally do with her books. And I know Butler likes to make readers uncomfortable as a tool to make thought provoking commentary, however I was wildly unprepared for how far out this one was. The antagonist was SO unlikable, and there were moments when the protagonist seemed to have the ability to over power him but just didn’t??
