I don’t know if I liked this book or if I just appreciate St. john Mendel as an excellent writer? I felt miserable most of the time while reading it but it’s also a very sad book? so idk

When Lilia does what she always does and disappears, her boyfriend Eli follows her to Montreal and discovers what it means to skate along the surface of life.

I just love Emily St John Mandel. Every book of hers that I read is another intensely emotional experience for me. While this is my least favourite of the three I’ve read, I still whole-heartedly enjoyed it and wanted to learn Lilia’s story more and more.

I would say that given this is one of her earlier novels, it isn’t quite as polished as some of her more recent ones, but it is still beautiful and speaks to me in a way I can’t describe.
