The final Cane Brothers book focuses on Breaker, the youngest of the three siblings. friends-to-lovers story involves Breaker’s best friend, Lia, whom he met in college geeking out over Scrabble challenges. These two were the cutest and while it was hard for me to believe they couldn’t have developed feelings earlier in their friendship, it was still a fun read since Meaghan Quinn knows how to make a reader laugh. The grand gestures that occurred were so adorable and Breaker’s thoughtfulness was incredibly charming. Overall, this was solid read for romance reader who likes the spice.

Thank you, Michael Joseph Penguin Publishing, for sending this book to rate on the spice-o-meter and to write an honest review. I decided to read the first and second book in this series because starting on this one. In both of my other reviews I said that Breaker would be my favourite Cane brother, and oh sweet Jesus I was right.

This book has two points of views. The first one is the youngest Cane brother named Breaker. He and his brothers own and run Cane Enterprises. Breaker does all the figures for the business and loves his job. When an ex-employee tries to sue Breaker for harassment in the workplace, Breaker is pissed, he was raised right and tries to make all his employees feel welcome. His brothers are dealing with the lawsuit and Breaker has been told to go home and not return to work until it’s all sorted. Luckily, his best friend since college is getting married and is struggling to put his foot down to her monster-in-law so Breaker decides to help her and be the man of honour. But as he is helping her getting ready for her big day, he realised she is the woman for him and that he has never settled down because he has been contempt knowing that Lia is next door and always there for him. But that’s all about to change once she moves in with her soon-to-be husband. The countdown for the wedding is on, four weeks and Breaker will let Lia walk out of his life . . . if she is happy with her marriage. The second point of view is Lia, she knows everything about Breaker and is used to having to humble him by kicking his ass at board games. When her boyfriend proposes and her mother wants them married within four weeks, Lia feels the pressure and she doesn’t know if she can handle this married life. Brian doesn’t seem to enjoy sex and doesn’t make her feel special. As the relationship is slowly breaking down, she notices that Breaker is paying extra attention to her and making her feel like the only girl in the world. Soon Lia realises that she might be wanting something more from Breaker but she doesn’t want to ruin the friendship.

This is the one book in the series that didn’t give me whiplash. It was like falling asleep slowly and having a cool pillow. There was no third act break up. It was such a slow burn that when the spice finally arrived, I was screaming and wanting to high five Breaker. That man knows how to swoon a woman. He was sweet, nerdy, romantic and caring, but then dominant and so damn hot. That man knows how to use his words. The chapter where Breaker sees Lia in her wedding dress and he finally realises his feelings had me screaming, I was hoping he would kiss her there, but was so glad he didn’t kiss her then. Breaker is the only one of the brothers who actually had a head on his shoulders because throughout the series he helped his brothers get the girl and even though he freaked out based on his feelings, he didn’t do anything stupid – he was just showing Lia what she could have, and DAMN that girl had some restraint because I would have been climbing Breaker like a tree when he did what he did to Lia. This storyline was adorable, the characters were developed and adored (except Brian and the Beaver, you two can do one).

In terms of the Spice-O-Meter, it was very spicy, but it was a slow-burn spice, but trust me – once we got the spicy chapters it was worth it. It was very open-door and the fact that there were several spicy chapters from both MCs made it much spicier. The spice in this book was 8/10. This was the last book in the series by Meghan Quinn and it has been a rollercoaster ride, but it ended on a high. I cannot wait to read more of Meghan’s work and my standard for men get even higher.

I’ll start by saying that I didn’t read the whole series, just this book.

The rest of this review contains spoilers.

Breaker Cane. Yes. A million times yes. A hot man who is genuinely sweet, somewhat nerdy, has incredible attention to detail/has a great memory, and has a DIRTY mouth? We love him.

Some things I appreciated:
  • Breaker didn’t lead Birdy on or use her to get over Lia.
  • Lia didn’t cheat on Brian.
  • Breaker and Lia didn’t have a third-act fight or breakup. I HATE those in romance books!
  • The spice was great!

Some critiques:
  • How did they not realize their feelings for each other sooner?!
  • The gender reveal party and talk of the other women being pregnant was unnecessary. Again, I didn’t read the whole series, so maybe I’d feel different if I were invested in those characters and their lives, but, like…they had their own book! Leave Breaker and Lia alone.
  • I wish Lia didn’t go to coffee with Brian. I’m glad he apologized, and I recognize/appreciate what it did for Lia and her openness, but couldn’t they have had this conversation in the store? Or Lia could’ve at least told Breaker about it!

“You’re in love with your best friend, and you just finally realized it.”

I started this series bcs I was told it was good, which I totally agree with I really enjoyed this series. But I was also told this would be the best book, which I don't fully agree with.

Smut wise this is phenomenal. Definitely better than the other two books. Breaker is definitely the kinkier cane brother.
🌶🌶🌶🌶/5

“Your pussy deserves to be tongued, consumed, and fucked so hard that you can’t walk the next day.”

“My cock is fucking perfect for your deliciously tight cunt.”

The tension was real to say the least. But and this would have been important to me bcs I would've liked if besides all the good things you can say about this book, I wish someone would have said this to me.

This book feelt way longer than the other two content wise. For me personally the beginning of the book felt quite boring at times which is why I actually had thoughts abt dnfing. I wish someone on tt, which is where I found the book, had posted the chapter of when the tension starts to build up. So that I could have skipped a few chapters. Bcs I didn't find that I read all the chapters and will write them down for you if you're interested ⬇️.

Besides that Breaker is also quite the romantic. So the book had also a lot of fluff which I enjoyed.

I want to always be with you.
Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, will be better than you.
You’re my forever.

Now about the chapters ⬇️

The wedding dress scene in Chapter 10, is where he realizes his feelings, this was the chapter which made it clear for me I would regret dnfing.

Now this are the chapters in which you'll find tension and spice 🌶👀.
Chapters 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21[ two scenes], 22.
Personly, lookin back I wouldn't recommend skipping after ch.10 bcs the ball starts rolling from there. Have fun! 🌶

What I didn't like about the book ⬇️

Like I said above, Personly, the book felt quite long to read, especially in the beginning. This is my second time reading a book with 'nerdy' MCs, the first being the love hypothesis. I'm still unsure if I'm a fan of it or not.

But what I learned reading this book is that I don't enjoy it that much if I don't understand much of it, which I believe is a given for most people. In the beginning it goes quite a bit in depth about their 'nerdiness', it felt a bit much to me.

Also just before the end Lia lies to Breaker about meeting her ex fiance for closure on her past relationship with him. I felt like the lie was unnecessary and made me quite annoyed bcs I have trust issues lol. She definitely lost a few points in my book after that. It wasn't written down as lying in the book but I definitely perceived it in that way.

Lia was also quite blind to all the numerous red flags her fiance at the time, waved in front of her face. But ig it made sense at the end.

Anyway overall I liked the book that's what matters right😌.

So this book includes ⬇️
Friends to lovers ✔️
Getting married in 5 weeks ✔️
Talk about insecurities  ✔️
Possessive mmc ✔️
He falls first ✔️
OW before the mmc realizes his feelings ✔️

Lia was inevitable—some might say . . . a long time coming?
Enjoy!

Lia and Breaker met in college and bonded over all things nerdy. They have been besties for years, even getting apartments next to each other. Lia is now engaged and Breaker, her man of honor, accompanies her to all wedding appointments to help her deal with her awful MIL to be. One moments changes things and now Breaker needs to find a way to deal with these new feelings he is having.

We just talk about Breaker for a moment? He is by far the superior Cane brother. My GOD! He is a golden retriever - supportive, funny, caring. But then this whole other alpha side comes out ...! He is truly devoted to Lia, even before he realizes his feelings for her. He knows everything about her because he actually pays attention. He wants nothing more than for her to be happy and does everything he can to make that happen.

Lia values her friendship with Breaker more than anything, but she has only ever seen him as a friend. When she gets engaged she feels like something is holding her back from being happy and she can't figure out what it is. That is until she starts seeing another side of Breaker and what she is truly missing in her romantic relationship.

Lia and Breaker are just so perfect for each other. She is so worried that they will ruin their friendship, but Breaker is so I'm love with her that he will do anything to prove to her that they should be together. He worships her and treats her unlike any other man has. They have so much chemistry both emotionally and physically.

I love that Lia has been taken in by Kelsey, Myla, and Lottie. They help her open her eyes and see what she missing. They give her the female support and friendship that she has been craving.

I LOVE that we get to see so much of the other characters in this series. I love seeing how the 3 relationships have grown, especially seeing how much Huxley has changed and softened.

Tropes: friends to lovers, billionaire
