If you enjoy dirty dancing then this book is for you. Very cute book overall. The characters are adorable. I love that it was a resemblance to dirty dancing but without the age gap. Very young adult book that I truly enjoyed and recommend for a high school or middle school child could read. I also love the fact that the main characters were trying new things through out summer in order to find themselves. I think high school students do have a hard time trying to navigate finding a balance between what they have always been and what they want to be.

LOVED the cutest, summer essence of this book. BROOKS stole MY HEART (with pieces) and returned it back with healing wrap

Well this was okay. There are some ya books that really hit the mark and deal with important aspects of growing up and- i guess this kind of applied here? It was sweet and cute and you could detect the message this book had from the beginning. But even though i am around the age of Avery (fmc) her problems seemed so different from problems i had. It just felt like this was the perspective of an adult author. The conflict wasn’t very profound as the author hoped, it just felt like she was making a bigger deal out of it than it was. And also in no world do teenagers have deep conversations and “stuff they’re running from” in the first week of knowing eachother. And i could not take any of them seriously when they said any curse word “frick” “screw you” woah okay buddy calm your horses. This felt like a ya books meant for middle schoolers, not people in a similar age group.
I won’t talk about the whole main character moment she had when she was the deciding factor that the band??? her boyfriend?? and her were playing in won the?? undiscovered bands song contest??? How out of this world is this? “His future is music” okay calm down he probably won’t be famous in the next 5 years. And also why would she even sing when she hadn’t practiced for two weeks and the day of the contest decides she will sing? What

3.5/5 stars. Another cute contemporary from Kasie West. This author’s books are always hit or miss for me. I don’t think this was even close to my favorite of hers that I’ve read, but it was leagues better than my least favorite. Avery is a very relatable protagonist, and while the love interest in this one wasn’t my favorite, he’ll do. I just wish we got more on his backstory. Brooks has a lot of troubles at home and it seemed like they were just there to make a flat character seem like he had more dimension rather than actually playing a role in the story.
