My daughter enjoys Kasie West's books so I read this one at her urging and I'm so glad I did. I love good, clean YA romance, and Sunkissed was one of the best I've read in ages.
I thought West did a great job developing Avery's character. I also enjoyed how Avery interacted with both her sister and Brooks. The story was believable, funny, and sweet. I also appreciated that Kasie West kept the language and dialogue clean but still realistic sounding.
I would definitely recommend this book- 5 sunkissed stars from me!
NetGalley and Delacorte provided an advance copy of Sunkissed in exchange for my honest review.

Sunkissed is yet another example of why Kasie West is one of my “automatic buy” authors! To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever read a book by Kasie West that I didn’t enjoy, and I’ve read all of them! Sunkissed is a lighthearted and perfect read for summertime.
Avery’s summer is not going as planned. Her best friend betrayed her, but when Avery is finally (maybe?) ready to talk it through, her parents drag her away to the middle of nowhere for their annual vacation… for three months… with no cell service or internet. Avery decides that she should use this time to rediscover herself and try new things, but she’s not sure where to start. Enter Brooks, the angsty, cute employee with an endearing sob story. Brooks offers to help Avery rediscover herself under one condition: she has to help him win a battle of the bands competition. There’s only one problem: Avery has unbearable stage fright.
First of all, the characters in this book were very likeable in my opinion. Avery and Brooks were both adorable, but many of the supporting characters were likeable as well. Avery’s sister, Lauren, really helped move the story along. Additionally, some of the other teenage employees that Avery befriended at the camp, also added depth to the story.
In addition, the plot of the book wasn’t necessarily fast-paced, but it moved quickly enough to keep me engaged. The scene at the battle of the bands’ tryout added variation to the setting and recaptured my attention further into the novel. Sometimes novels that have mainly one setting can feel a little monotonous or redundant, but that was not the case with this book. I was so absorbed with the interactions between the characters, that it didn’t really matter that most of the book takes place at the camp.
Finally, I’ve found with most Kasie West books that they simply go by so quickly. I read this book in under 24 hours, so it’s perfect if you’re in a reading slump or need a fun, refreshing read. Very few authors have the ability to write in a way where the reader can lose themselves in the book, but Kasie West is one of those talented authors, and Sunkissed is one of those books!

The perfect summer read! Avery and Brooks were two great characters. Avery was such a great character, I loved her! I related to her so, so much. I loved seeing the sister relationship grow between Avery and Lauren. I could relate to their relationship with my relationship with my own sister. (Sisters are the best ever ❤️ even if they make you wanna pull your hair out sometimes😂)
Anyways, just a fun read! I loved it bunches.

Avery Young and her family are spending the summer at an off-the-grid camp resort, which turns out to be the perfect escape from finding out your best friend kissed your ex. Avery is all too familiar with running away from her problems, and avoiding any confrontation. But now, she’s tired of being walked all over, and wants to use the summer to find herself, and not the person people expect her to be. Luckily for her, one of the camp employees, Brooks, the guitar player of the camps band, needs her help too. He knows the camp inside and out, so in exchange he will help her try new things. But working with Brooks shows Avery everything she could have if only she is brave enough to go for it.
I read my first Kasie West book in 2014 and my second one not long after, so it is hard for me to even contemplate that 2021 me received an eARC of Sunkissed for this tour. But if I have learned anything, it is that West never disappoints! Sunkissed was everything I could have hoped for in a contemporary at the start of summer break. I think I reached a record in how quickly I read it in one sitting because of how hooked I was. I decided while reading this that West is a master at dialogue. The flow of conversation was always so perfect: the timing, the play on words, the jokes, everything! In general, the timing as a whole was perfect too! Just the right amount of slow burn where other contemporary books tend to rush. This book is literally a bundle of pure joy disguised in pages and ink. I loved the characters so much! I especially loved the sister relationship portrayed with Lauren and Avery. The drama factor was next level too, I was so on edge as to how everything was going to wrap up at the end.
The Dirty Dancing vibes were immaculate! I cannot express how happy I was with the love interests development, from the meet cute, to the banter, to the deal, to the festival. Avery’s coming of age story was easy to connect with and relatable to a lot of us. Brooks’ initial brooding outside opens to reveal a much deeper soul. I finished the last page with a huge smile on my face, all thanks to the magic Kasie West creates with her stories. I highly recommend this for all your summer TBRs!

I have always felt that Kasie West's books are a perfect getaway in general from life and heavy reads; but I was greatly disappointed with this book. I didn't enjoy it one bit.
All the characters were underdeveloped; the conversations bland and I didn't care about anything or anyone. The whole camp plotline was just thrown in the dump when it could have been utilised in a much more better way.
Also, I felt that most of the plotline/ themes were recycled from her previous books.
