I'm a bit biased because I've listened to about 20 episodes of the podcast before picking up the audiobook. So I was familiar with the narrator, the town setting and some characters. Cecil's voice is so calming I had to go back several times and relisten due to falling asleep. I enjoyed the adventure and look forward to listening to the rest of the podcast. I'm also interested in the other nightvale novels, so I'll get to those soon.
Moderate: Alcoholism, Abandonment
Minor: Cursing, Medical content, Kidnapping
I expected more, and maybe I was at fault for constantly comparing it to the podcast. I don't think the book was as successful in portraying this beloved realm.
Still it was an enjoyable fun read.

Welcome to Nightvale and all related content will forever be 5 stars for me.

If you love Night Vale you should read this. Very off the wall chaotic cosmic horror with humor. We get more stories on the characters Diane, Jackie, and The Man in the Tank Jacket.
Graphic: Body horror, Gore, Blood
Moderate: Car accident, Abandonment
Minor: Death

Entertaining, but a little hard to "stick to"; the craziness of Night Vale doesn't necessarily translate well into a novel with characters and a specific, long-running story arc. But still - it's Night Vale and any time there is a time to be enjoyed. Or dreaded. Just don't go to the library to borrow this book. If you do, avoid drawing the attention of the librarians. You know why. And now, the weather.

Night Vale is a weird place. I have never listened to the podcast (although I subscribe to it in my podcast app and have very much intended to do so), so this was my first contact with the place.
It is often funny, sometimes a bit monotonous. The language is truly absurd and interesting, and in my opinion kind of the point of this book - because the story in itself was not that great. It was actually rather unengaging and predictable (which should not be possible when writing a story about a town that defies logic and the laws of nature). The humour and writing style strongly reminds me of The hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy, which I loved as a teenager. I did not love this book as much, but it had it’s moments for sure.
One question regarding this book still bothers me: how is this possibly listed as horror? Nothing in this story was scary at all, even the scene with the most suspense - the library - was anything but funny.
The only thing that qualifies as horror is the ending - which was horribly pointless. Don’t read the ending, you won't miss anything. The rest of the book is better.
