Welcome to Night Vale

Great long form of the podcast. It's got all the characters you love: Cecil - the voice of Night Vale Community Radio, Carlos - his very attractive scientist boyfriend, The Faceless Old Woman, John Peters (you know, the farmer?), and others. All of the weirdness of the podcast, but now it's a book! Check it out at the local public library, if you dare cross the vicious, terrifying librarians that haunt it

There were parts of this book that was very Night Vale. There were parts that were not. I think my favorite part was glancing inside that one building that is forbidden to enter because of how dangerous it is, but we subject our children to those dangers every year.
As always, the typical characters in the Night Vale lore were doing what they do best.
I swear though, there are some parts that I have heard in the podcast but are slightly different? I need to listen to it again to figure it out.

Super fun, quirky read. This is based on the popular podcast of the the same name. I've never listened to the podcast but I may dip into it now. I don't think it's necessary to have listened before diving into this book. However, this book is so weird that if you're not open to following a story to wherever it may take you may have difficulty getting into this book. I also recommend listening to the audio version. I kept thinking how I might not have had the patience to read a print version this weird ass book, and I would have missed out on a fun story.

It's weird. It's wonderful. It's quite the fantasy. I couldn't get into the podcast but think I'll give it another go now!

Gah. I really wanted to like this more than I did. I sampled the first chapter and thought it captured the Night Vale weirdness perfectly. I didn't think to question whether the narrative could sustain that sense of 'other' for an entire novel. I'm sad to say that it become too bland too quickly. There were highlights even after this, but they were regrettably few. At least the protagonists were quite well developed.

Despite all this, I'll probably still pick up the inevitable next Night Vale novel.

I came into this audiobook having never listened to the podcast before, but having had it recommended to me several times as something that would be up my alley. I am not really a podcast person though, so have not given it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised and can see why this universe has been recommended to me. I loved the characters and the strange workings of Night Vale. I definitely think audiobook was the way to go! This book has convinced me to finally start listening to the podcast, so hopefully I will enjoy that as well.
