An interesting examination into the philosophical bases for many of our policies and laws. I may not always agree with the author's conclusions but he makes compelling arguments. Undeniably an interesting read.

I have read the book and watched the lectures. If you go into this book looking for in-depth philosophical discussion and academic thesis, you will be disappointed. For those who want to start learning about ethics and morality, and how different schools of thoughts affect how we operate today, this is the perfect book for you! I rated it 4 stars because I thought it ended too soon, I wish there’s more content. Bring a highlighter and a pen for the read.

Again, I would say 3,75 stars. I really enjoyed the first half of the book: it was intuitive, honest and deeply philosophical (it is philosophy after all). If you've never had any experience with Ethics it is a good introduction to some of the most renowned philosophers - from Aristotle to John Rawls. It explains the theory of Kant - whom I never, and still don't, liked - in a modern day manner without making you feel like an idiot. During the last part of the book I got the impression of a preaching on ethics, which I didn't really appreciate, but I guess it was a slippery slope for a book concerned with justice, human rights, philosophical questions of society, etc.
It was a surprisingly fast read for a non-fiction book. Give it a try and you might be pleasantly surprised as well.

Good intro to ethical and moral philosophy, conclusion was a little clumsy and the commentary on some modern political issues felt one-sided and limited in perspective and context.

I read this for an Ethics course in university. Even though, since I had to study it, it was quite hard to read, it was pretty interesting.
