3.5? An enjoyable better written VC Andrews story. The problem with Margaret Atwood is that it's never clear if she's making fun of misogynistic stereotypes or if she believes them. Especially in a book from the 90s.

Someday I will have read everything Atwood ever wrote and I'll be so sad to never be able to read one of her books again for the first time.
These women are better than I am. Zenia was a terrible, awful and manipulative person, I could never forgive her if she have done to me some of the things she did to them. It has nothing to do with the men, despite the fact that the book makes, at times, about it. But it has to do with her cunning and unforgivable betrayal of making friends only to destroy them.
All that said, not my favorite of Atwood's books.

Margaret Atwood is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. All I'd read of her's previous to this (excepting maybe a short story or two) was The Handmaid's Tale and I went into this expecting it to be the same sort of thing. It wasn't at all, but it was still fairly exceptional.
Just what I needed right now. Also: 500 pages in 3 days -- it's been awhile since I've done that in a non-grad school capacity!.
I really enjoyed this, though not in a "must read it now, must find out what happens next" way, but in a more thoughtful, slow-paced way. I particularly like that I felt able to connect with the main characters, even though they are far older than me and in a very different life situation--few authors do that well.
Exciting premise and I did enjoy it but it wasn't a real page turner that I couldn't put down or one I finished quickly, I found it started slow and was expecting more from a plot line that gripping
Another masterpiece by one of my absolute favourite authors. Atwood writes in lyrical human truths and no one crafts a character or a mystery quite like her. Tony, Charis, Roz, and Zenia are no exception.
