You know how generally, people say that sequels aren't better than the first book? (I'm looking at you, Insurgent) Well, that statement does not apply to Rick Riordan. Because whatever he writes let it be a new series or a sequel, it's amazing. And The Hammer of Thor is no exception.
The story picks up right after the events of the first book. I'll have to say that in one year, I have a bit forgotten what happened in the first book so I had to look up for the plot on the Percy Jackson wikia. (shame *ding ding ding*). But once you start reading the sequel it's not hard to fall into the world again and that was really reassuring.
Now I could talk for hours on why everyone should read Riordan's books and be a huge Percy Jackson fan but I am sure that this is not what people are looking for in constructive reviews. Well, are my reviews constructive? I just tend to throw up my thoughts in nicely written paragraphs and that's it.
I'm diverting. Sorry.
To continue with the review, I'll have to say that all the characters he writes about are sassy in their own way, so while the sassiness of his characters is really nothing new, saying that it bored me would be a lie. I love sassy characters! Bring it on baby!
What makes this present book different from his other books which has previously been published is that there's much more diversity in this one. Yes, I am talking about one of my new favourite characters, Alex.
Alex is gender fluid. Sometimes, he's a he, sometimes she's a she. And I love how Riordan incorporated this new character into the story because, dam, that was amazing! (not just because s/he is gender fluid; mostly because Alex is overall an amazing character).
I would love to talk about the writing style but if you have already read Riordan's books, then you know how funny and witty and sarcastic the writing is. Yes, sometimes Magnus sounds like Percy, but I would like to point out that; besides being different characters from different series, they both had their own adventures which have shaped them differently. So yes, you can compare those two. But they are different, okay? Percy is not Magnus. Magnus is not Percy. And that's it.
Also........ DAM THAT ENDING! You know, with Ragnarok looming over them and all, I was so happy that the ending clearly was shouting at us that OMG IT'S HAPPENING BITCHES YASSSSSSS! I am just so excited for the sequel; I cannot wait!
p.s: Yes, I wrote "dam" like "Dam" as in "huge water container". Now if you have understood that reference, thank you very much.

Loved this book. What a roller coaster! Pulled me in right from the get go. There were a couple things that weren't answered as clearly as I'd like but boy did I love the crossover/tie in to Percy Jackson. Yaaaas queen
