I can see why this is a beloved classic, but goodness those classmates are brats and I'm not sure they really get the lesson they should.

This is the first book I ever read by myself at the age of four. I lost my original copy but was lucky enough to find another at a second hand book store. I still love it twenty years later.

I love that the dad is secretly reading parenting books. hah!

I didn't like that the teacher just let the kids get away with bullying Chrysanthemum. But, this book was written in 1991 when that was still allowed.

PB 25. This is one of my all time favorite children's books. I think this would be a perfect beginning of the school year pick for younger children. The love the depiction of the relationship between Chrysanthemum and her teacher. Mrs. Twinkle is the teacher that every kid dreams of, and most kids can relate to having a life-changing teacher. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. I can't wait to read this to my classroom and to my own kids.

As a child, this book helped me come to terms with having an uncommon name. Great for teaching kids about uniqueness, originally and self-confidence!
