I remember reading this as a kid and forgetting about it but man, I remember thinking of a mouse whenever I heard the word "chrysanthemum" and always wondering why until I revisited this
I so love Henkes' illustrations~ so whimsical and lovely and light! Also, love how he takes real fears and troubles and makes them accessible and easy to share with children.
Chrysanthemum loves her name and recognizes that a name is important. However, when she gets to school, the other kids are very rude about her somewhat unusual name. They are pretty relentless in their teasing and Chrysanthemum desperately wants to change her name to something that will not sound so different. I enjoyed this book very much because it shows just how cruel kids can be, even when they might not realize it, and how one small gesture can change everything.
One of the first books I remember my mom reading me when I was a toddler!

Es un sencillo cuento sobre la autoestima. Muy bellos los dibujos y la historia es efectiva y cumple con creces su propósito. Al parecer es un clásico. Confieso que, no desagradándome, esperaba más.
Absolutely loved this story! I definitely recommend this to you. Read it to your kids or to yourself, it was a great story. Have fun!
Henkes's repetition of entire sentences every few pages is extremely irritating. The only thing I think is good about this book are the illustrations.
