Oh! The marvelous meddling from Colin Bridgerton though? I adore that man! Astute as always, master manipulator, proverbial ass-kicking Celestine. I was grinning like an idiot whenever he made Michael want to strangle him. That man needed a push and my baby Colin understood the assignment.
Of course, Michael was perfect, even when he was wallowing and burying himself under a mountain of self-pity. I understand. I only knew John briefly, but I did feel the pain of his absence.
The portrayal of grief and guilt and love and the hope for a second chance (and the additional guilt that brings)... beautiful.
And the end! "Thank you, for letting my son love her first." I kid you not, I nearly cried.
That's just it, the whole thing was beautiful.

This is the most unromantic romance novel ever!
The timeline is a little wonky too. Colin was married in book 4 and Eloise in book 5, but here in book 6 they are both unmarried.

Not a reason at all to skip the series, in fact Iâd still recommend it, just be prepared/trigger-warned for some Womanizer Lite behavior from the men and some personality shifts from all characters book-to-book. Seems to be smoothed over well in the show so far :)

Male behavior towards their partners throughout the series is aggressive bordering on coercion/non-consent at times in intimate scenes before basically yelling âDO YOU CONSENT?â to which the woman agrees. This book had some straight up coerciongeminisoul's review against another edition

I loved that because of her status as a widow, Francesca is afforded a pinch more freedom than the previous FMCs have been given. She also doesnât have the same level of ignorance going into sex with Michael that creates such a power imbalance in the other books. (It also happens to be the steamiest of them, by a lot.) In addition, Francesca has bigger hurdles to clear: miscarriage, grief over her husbandâs death, her own infertility, guilt over having feelings for someone else. The simultaneous timeline between Colin, Eloise & Francescaâs stories was fun. A lot less âokay, thatâs done so now we can focus on the next childâ feeling.
There was still some ick around some of the scenes that honestly just feels inevitable for historical romances. And these men just canât control themselves! (The creep in the garden, the creeps at the club, and even Michael as heâs trying to coerce Francesca into marriage.) I enjoyed it but I still prefer Colinâs story to this one.
